Props to Tereza!

Seriously, no talk about Tereza winning ANOTHER IM one month after racing Lake Placid?!!!

Huge props to Tereza!
Mark

Whatever it is that she’s doing differently now under Brett, it’s damn effective!

Clearly she has figured out what works for her since she is dusting the field.

Hopefully she can put together a great Kona race and make the womens even more interesting.
Andrew

That would be an interesting race since she can clearly out swim pretty much anyone. So if she gets out early and is able to stay out there for a long time, might make things really interesting in the end.
M~

Yeah Brett Sutton’s athletes seem to always get much better when they train with him (watch out for Jason Cunnama as the next big thing from Team TBB) but they can back up after races so quickly. Must be something in the way he does more regular sessions of shorter duration that doesn’t wear them down as much. Don’t want to say it, but maybe Tereza and Rebekah Keat might have a slight chance at Kona.

M - Was there any doubt. She was riding the fastest bike in the world and has been training with the best coach in the world.

But only 5 weeks after Placid that is what amazes me the most.
I hate to get all giddy but what if she could take Kona?! That would be an absolutely HUGE year. (Not that it isn’t now).

I could care less what bike she actually rides or who her coach is. Thought you would take the bait. She is Canadian (most of the time) and it is great to see a Canadian win at home in such a great way.

As much as I dislike Sutton the person, apparently, the guy can coach.
But i could also care less what bike she rides.

ATHLETE	RANK	AGE/DIV	SWIM	BIKE	RUN	TOTAL

1 MACEL, TEREZA 1/1/1 35/WPRO 00:51:11 04:58:13 03:17:52 09:11:20

rank: 1/1/1 … now that is a good day at the office !
judging by the run splits, it looks like she didn’t let up on the second half, even if the outcome was pretty much decided.

Kona should be really interesting

Ewan

But can she recover and do a third amazing performance in such a short time. There is a bit of a curse with athletes trying Canada and then trying to do well in Hawaii.

true enough, but I imagine that is what they were saying when she did LP and IMC so close together…

Ewan

EDIT: I am not saying she is going to win, her run doesn’t seem to be quick enough to compete with Chrissie et al, but she should spice things up with her swim and bike

nobody is going to “make kona interesting” running a 3h15+ marathon.

I remember similar comments when Badmann won her first couple IMH with relatively slow marathons. The fact is, like Badmann’s wins, that was all she needed to run. Is she capable of running quicker? Likely. How much remains to be seen and that is where it gets fun (or painful depending upon your perspective).

Steve Larsen sure made Kona interesting in 2001 and he ran 3:19!

Tereza’s marathon splits have not been at a Kona podium level, but as others have said, we haven’t seen her run speed when pressed (this year), so as fans I think we can suspend disbelief if she has a lead in T2. I would agree however that other contenders would be wise not to alter their plans to try to ride with her.

This is what is the difference. Her cycling is a bit better. She has always been strong on the swim( She had a stretch two years ago where she was first woman out of the water in 5 IM races over a year and a half) and on the bike. It’s the run that’s really backing her up now. Her ability to close with a reasonably fast and strong run in an IM race has taken a massive jump up for her.

As for Kona, most of the top 10 women at Kona will run faster than 3:15. Tereza is going to have to run that fast to hang in there off the bike. From what I have seen this year, she is fully capable of that.

It’s always nice to see a local athlete from the Toronto area do well. Congratulations to Tereza

Looks like there will be a strong contingent of Canadian women racing in the Pro race at IMH led by Tereza. Good to see.

Brent,

Hypothetical, but not that far off - with all due respect, Tereza could swim 50 and bike 5:00 flat at IMH. A 3:15 run would put her in at 9:05. Which last year, in less than ideal conditions albeit, would have put her a minute ahead of Wellington. She just did 9:11( with a roughly 50/5:00 opening swim/bike) at IMC heat/wind issues aside, I am guessing the IMH course at this pace in good conditions runs about 10 minutes faster - so this(9:05) is not a wild, completely out there time for Tereza. I think that she could make things very interesting if she is having a good day. The Sindballe/ Leito of the woman’s race!

For sure, strange and bizarre things happen at IMH. It’s crushed and cumbled some of the absolute best athletes in this sport, but so far this year, Tereza has knocked it out of the park in every race. She has the potential to do the same at IMH.

very true…

T as the potential to make it interesting in hawaii. But the major point to remember is… Who said she is planning to run 3:15… the way she is improving right now…she might just go ahead and post a 2:59 and collect her cheque when passing go!!!

Maybe, Jonny!

It’s interesting and exciting, because the great Canadian women from the recent past - Lori Bowden, Heather Fuher and Lisa Bentley and going back a bit further, Jule White were all really great and strong runners - all with sub 3 hour run credentials. Sam McGlone our other recent great success was and is a bit of an all-rounder. Tereza is VERY strong on the front end, and we have never had a Canadian woman who has been like that. I note that the game in the women’s race is different now since the hey-day of Bowden, Fuher, Bentley and White. The seperate Pro start really favours the pro womem who can swim with the Pro men and cycling with some of them early on. For women swimming closer to 60 minutes, there is no draft on the swim and then it’s a long lonely chase on the bike.

Do they not have transition times at IMH of at least a few minutes?
