Properly comparing/measuring seat heights

May be a dumb question, but I’ve been searching for a reason why my tri bike saddle is so much higher than my road bike saddle.

Do you measure from the bottom bracket to the exact point where you sit on the saddle or from the bottom bracket to a perpendicular point in space which is equal to your seat height? If it’s the former, should the distance be the same between a road and tri bike? My tri bike saddle is** much** further forward so this would explain the difference.

I would think you should be measuring from the lowered pedal position, measuring from the bottom bracket doesn’t take into account crank length.

Not sure on the rest of the question.

Assuming similar crank length.

Anyone?

I base my seat height off my inseam. since that never changes, my road bike, tri bike and mtb have the same seat height. I measure from center of bottom bracket to top of seat. with minor adjustments depending on type of seat.
