What is the proper way of holding the aerobars? In otherwords what would be the ideal lenght of the extentions?
Should the shifters be in the hands (palms) while riding?
I don’t hold the shifts while I ride, but rather lightly grip the bars themselves. Of course, I’d guess it depends on the aerobars themselves. Also, I’d venture a guess that it depends on what you’re most comfortable with.
If speed is your objective, holding the bars will be more areodynamic.
I’m not an expert, tho…
Whatever is comfortable for you. I usually don’t hold the shifters but have my fingers close for shifting. When climbing (pedaling harder) I will choke up and hold the bars underneath and use it for leverage. On long rides/races I usually rest my hands on top. Make sure you are set up properly on the bike and then adjust the bars/shifters where you like them.
