Triathletes get a bad (often deserved) rap that they can’t handle a bike, but sometimes shit just goes wrong…
Dude, that guy on the front is NOT a roadie. He looks a little large to be a PRO roadie.
But, his kit does match is bike. So, he must be really, really good.
Yeah, the gut does kind of give it away…
crashes happen in almost every crit and most road races because at some point you’re always on the edge. sometimes it’s poor bike handling and sometimes it’s taking corners at 30mph for an hour. however, when you look at the degree of technical riding ability needed for a crit/road race compared to triathlon, it’s not even close.
That definitely looks like a triathlete on a road bike (about to have a broken collarbone).
lol at all their faces.
dude, its very bad karma to make fun of those who fall on their bikes. i hope these guys are ok!!!
That corner looks verrrrry familiar. I’m thinking Leonardtown MD, home of the Leonardtown Crit produced by the club I used to belong to: Pax Velo. Hands-down the most “popular” spot to spectate or marshall for that race. Downhill into and uphill out of a 140-ish degree right hander. Clipped a pedal there myself several years ago and said hi to my rear wheel as it started coming by on my left.

Surely this statement must piss off the ST crowd, even tho it is true…
I dont get it. Are we also supposed to crap any marathon runner that can’t run a sub-5 mile or piss on anyone in the pool that cant do a 400m butterfly? Cyclists come at all levels and reasons. Just because you post a picture of someone who is possibably a Cat5 or Citizen doesnt mean shit.
BTW, are you really sure that it’s the top level cyclists giving triathletes the rub that you feel, or just other non competitive cycling enthusiasts who are starting out in the sport and don’t know what your idea of “proper etiquette” is?
Looks like some CAT 5 guy to me
.
Triathletes get a bad (often deserved) rap that they can’t handle a bike, but sometimes shit just goes wrong…
Ha! This is exactly what happened to me on Tuesday night.
…except I didn’t try for the bonus broken collar bone and there was a patch of leaves that initiated the slipping.
That’s a junior race in Mexico!
Proof that triathletes don’t even know what a roadie is…
(Osbourne, I am posting in conjunction with you, as I agree)
What is also apparent is that these guys are pushing the limits of tire adhesion on the pavement, taking the corner as fast as they can in order to win. Sometimes you make the corner and get a gap on who’s behind you, but sometimes you fail and slip out. These guys are trying to do what it takes to succeed at a sport that can be very tough, where the penalty of a simple mistake like going into a corner 0.1 mph too hot or being 1 inch too off-line can result in a crash. I think it’s truly moronic to blast people who are trying their best.
Obviously mountain bikers can’t handle their bikes either. It seems, when you push it, stuff happens. But your right, these pics are basically the same as a triathlete falling over trying to get clipped in after T1, now thats EXTREME!

OBVIOUSLY a CAT 5… his helmet doesn’t even match his jersey for crying out loud. And don’t get me started on the poorly matched kit to bike, or the fact that half the kit is not white.
Early this year at the Georgia Cup, Gainesville, I caught a wreck on camera.
No idea what happened to cause it, but there it is.
The thing is, after an hour of those turns in a huge pack (I think it was a 35man field on this crit), usually at anaerobic for about the whole time… things happen. Heck, my own crits were smaller packs and shorter times, I’ve some of the better bike handling skills of my team, and I got shakey at the end of them too. Not as bad as chasing the Velo boyz in New Orleans last Thanksgiving when one of them decided to “drop the girl” on the Saturday ride, but still.
Nah, he’s just performing a trick.
