I just picked up a set of these bars used. You’re able to mount the bar extensions either above or below the base bar, and there’s a set of mounting brackets both above and below the base bar. My question is this: Let’s say I want to mount the extensions above the base bar. The above bar brackets anchor to the under bar brackets. Is there some part I can buy that would eliminate the need for the under bar bracket? Having to keep attached the under bar brackets, even though I don’t use them to hold the extensions, is a horrible design. Kind of like the rubber band you get to mount their aero drink bottle.
You could probably just use some solid washers. That's what is done when someone removes the upper brackets to lower the extensions with the extentions on the lower ones. I have the extensions in the upper brackets and ran my cables through the lower ones. Keeps them out of the airflow.
Actually, he’d need a washer AND a nut. The bottom brackets are threaded, so that’s what the bolt goes into. So, if you take away the bracket you now need a nut for the bolt. Shouldn’t be a big deal…I kept mine there like you, to thread the cables through.
