I received my PD Aerodrink yesterday and I don’t like the solution with the yellow “ball” to keep the fluid in the bottle. I have some ideas about making my own cover, but first it would be interesting to know if it’s possible to buy a better cover than the yellow one. Anyone else who has made there own cover?
I HATED the little yellow net thingy that came with my PD Aerodrink setup. I was drenched before even getting out my neighborhood everytime I used it. Then I tried the Jetstream Nxt replacement foam and I haven’t had that problem again.
go to Target and buy a Loufa (sp?) shower thingy with a string on it. Jam it down in there and wrap the string around the straw. There are more elegant ways to do it but this is cheap and simple.
I’ve tried the camera lens cover(55mm), works pretty good. Put a very small hole into the lens cap and the top of the bottle and used a tie strap to keep it in place if you need to open it on the fly for a refill.
I also saw the Jetstream foam insert and it was a great solution, but I like using Nuun’s so that option doesn’t work well for me.
The link from 2WHEELS of FURY mentions the camera lens option.
Interesting idea about the lens cover, I’ll try to find one and do some tests! Does it work with all kind of 55mm lens covers or are there just some brands which fit?
thin plastic with a star cut into it and taped on. Profile have made a cap for the aerodrink with this pattern. Problem I’ve had with a hole in the centre of the star is that fluid gets sucked up and out by the airflow.
What’s wrong with the yellow netting? If installed correctly, it won’t pop out or splash. You’ll lose the benefit of refilling it quickly if you use a cover.
I lost my yellow “scrubbie” within the first 1/4 mile of my first race with it last summer. I took a sponge and kind of cut it into the shape of the bottle. It worked fine and allowed for refills on the fly.
After the race, you will need to wash it thoroughly if you used any kind of sports drink or else you will start to grow mold.
The liquid always gets in my face and have lost the sponge on numerous occasion. I’ve seen lots of sponges go flying during races too. Now, I use saran-wrap and just poke a hole through it with my straw. It works but definitely not high tech.
