I lowered my arm rests on my Profile Carbon X bar a few years ago. I recently switched to S bends from the regular extensions and with the increased pressure from the added leverage, my forearms are killing me. I used the standard armrest bolts that came with the bar and the bolts heads are poking out. They stick out almost a centimeter and I can feel the bolt heads through the pads. Did anyone else have this problem and replace their bolts with something else? If so where did you get the new bolts?
Go to a local hardware store (not a Home Depot). They usually have a nice assortment of nuts and bolts. I think you need M6 bolts of appropriate length and probably would want to try a buttonhead one, or if they didn’t have that, a flatthead version maybe with a washer of some sort…
PS- Go titanium or at least stainless steel. That rust makes your font end look like… well you get the idea;-)
I tried racebolts.com but the longest bolt that they have for a M6 Buttonhead was 30mm. I need 60 to 80mm. I defiantly want go stainless because the rust looks fugley. I’m going to head to ACE hardware on the way home and see what they have. I was going to try the Carbon X upgrade kit offered by Trisports http://www.trisports.com/prdecax15br.html, but it looks like those bolt heads would stick up too. Plus $20 bucks just to use the bolts is pretty steep.
If I recall correctly, I ended up using the M6x50 with a titanium washer on top of the base bar.
I remember that it did cost like $50 buck or so from racebolts. I never did race with the setup, the wrist angle was just to extreme for IM racing… However, if I were racing HIM last year I probably would have kept it.
