Professional Registration for Ironman Events?

I was looking at sites out of curiousity and haven’t seen any details for pro-registration being any different than general registration. Don’t these guys have some leeway?

It all depends on who you are…

I’m not anyone. I’m just wondering.

My brother registered me online for my first IM a few years ago. He did it on Active.com and seemed to think I was a ‘pro’ and registered me as that rather than as an age grouper. I notified IMFL and asked them to change it back and they did - but only after trying to persuade me to keep it as a pro (wierd.)

The next two times I registered I did it in person.

So can you share some more details?

What support crew was saying, depending on the Pro. I can guarentee Tim DeBoom could sign up for any race the day before, full or not, but then some of the newer and non producing pros would have a harder time and would probably have to petition the Race director a little harder.

Ok, aside from using kneepads, how is a pro SUPPOSE TO register? Just like everyone else?

Like for IMFL - do they have to get online and hurry to get in the 3 hour window like everyone else?

I would think a simple phone call or paper application would get them in with no Active anxiety
.

My wife raced as pro for the first time at IMLP. She sent an email to the race organizers with some past results and was registered for the race after a couple of emails. It was a surprisingly simple process.

Ok, here’s the straight, official dope.

Professioanals, as determined either by USAT or by a preponderance of examination of their race history by the IM North American race organizer staff, may enter up to two weeks before the race and need not pay an entry fee.

Whew. I figured some here would know difinitively.

I think you just gave me an idea for a new business. I was expecting to click on this and see a new service that you could hire someone to sign you up for IM’s. I’m running with this idea. What’s the limit for onsight registration. I figure I could sit in line for a day, get 15-20 sign up slips and scalp 50-75$ a piece for my services. 750-1500$ for a days work? 7K a year or so less expenses…this could work.

The problem is that you will likely not get away with registering 30 people. I registered 4 at IMFL (including myself). Rules vary depending on which volunteer you approach a the table. Often you are able to register yourself and one other. My plan (had I been restricted) was to get others in line who were not registering someone else to let me use their registration slot. I had some palm grease ready if needed.

Are you saying all pros get a comped entry?

No entry fee for pros…that is news to some pros that I know who have paid in the past!

I expect the days of signing up another person on site are over. I know you were kidding, but plans like your describe will be one reason they will halt the practice. Next, I expect they will require a deposit due to the people who take a certificate on speculation and don’t use it.

I hope they post something about this on site sign up for IMWI before the race to avoid a scene like Lake Placid.

When I first read this, I was thinking that maybe NAS was hiring a professional staff to handle registration for its events.

I think that may be for NAS races only…but then again…I don’t do Ironmans
