I was in Pierre, SD this past week and they lost my luggage - so I had to go out and buy a bunch of shit. The guy I was with swears by the new Gillette M3 Power razor, so I picked one up. I also picked up an Oral B spinning toothbrush (the rechargable one).
The razor: Well, I never would have guessed that I’d be taking a battery operated, vibrating device into the shower with me - at least not alone! But DAMN you know… this little bugger really works! I usually use a “regular” Mach 3, and this razor was definitely better. I’d say the jump between this and the Mach 3 is equivalent to that between the Mach 3 and my old Sensor Excel, or between the Sensor Excel and the old blue Bic disposables. If you’ve never tried it, pony up the $10 and give it a whirl. I was impressed.
The toothbrush: This is the one with the circular head - not the one with the spinning circular head and the “regular” brush right below it. You have to sort of alter your brushing technique, just holding the brush there and letting the motor do the work. It kind of feels like what the dentist does, which is I suppose the point. I liked it. The small size of the head makes it easy to manipulate around the back teeth and to work the inside edges (something I’ve never been too good about getting with a regular brush), and the spinning head makes it easy to work on “polishing” the front teeth. Years of heavy coffee/coke drinking have left my teeth less than sparkling white, and I’m thinking that this might help. This thing goes for like $18, which is a lot more than a normal brush (although a mere fraction of what those Sonicare brushes go for!). Given that a set of whitening strips is like $60 though, and this puppy actually cleans my teeth well to boot, I think it’s worthwhile.
Sometimes the gimmicky shit actually does work!
