A friend of mine (I wish this was my problem!) qualified for Kona in June. He paid his money, and received his certificate. After 30 days, he attempted to register by calling whoever in Hawaii he’s supposed to call. Well, they don’t know about him. He’s not on the list of qualifiers on the original race website, nor is he on the list of qualifiers on the ironmanlive website. Numerous calls and emails to the RD over the previous several weeks have not been answered or returned. Kona people assure him that everything will be okay, but he still cannot register.
Anyone have any suggestions on what this guy can do, other than have more patience?
You don’t call after 30 days, you do it online. Has he tried again? After IM NZ, they were a couple of days delayed before our names showed up (mine wasn’t there, nor were two or three other guys that I knew had qualified). Once they got the database updated, I got registered.
I’d say as long as he has the certificate (and credit card receipt to show he paid), then he’s fine.

As I said, it’s not me, so I don’t know all the procedures, but I do know that he spoke to some people in Hawaii after unsuccessfully trying to register. Also, he paid via check (as required); said check has not cleared. I’m guessing that the RD bought the slots, and the check (made out to the RD’s triathlon organization) is merely repayment to that organization.
As long as he paid, he’s ok…
