Probikekit shipping

Anyone ever buy from them and get the product shipped to CANADA? Wondering what your experience was like regarding shipping costs, taxes, duty, timeframe, etc.
Thanks.

The shipping was (and is now) free to Canada. The shipping is super fast (within a week and sometimes 3-4 days), and sometimes I got dinged for duties, other times nada. Very good return policy. Honestly, these guys are the ones to be beat right now for an online e-tailer.

I’ve seen free shipping to US but not to Canada, is that standard? The Dura Ace groupset states “due to the nature of this product…additional $52 on top of normal shipping…”

At $900 for a DuraAce groupset…can you go wrong???

I think a big item like that’s going to get dutied. likewise, bigger items dont’ get free shipping… check with your specific purchases. they usually mark the actual value on the declaration so if you’re buying anything more than 20 bucks or so you’ve probably got a 75% chance of getting dinged (from my experience.)

oh yeah, shipping to east coast is super fast… a weekend and 1 business day was the record for me. average is probably 3 or 4 days

WTF? I got a crankset from them to NC in 31 days. Site says 4 weeks to US, I thought- NO WAY!

Way.

Why the Canada love???

commonwealth country.

I love them…just bought the parts to upgrade to 10sp from them. Since they’ve gone back to the free shipping, i’ve ordered a lot more stuff, just like i used to when it was free last year (they changed it to charge/order a little while back). the nice thing about the free shipping, is i broke my order into 5 different shipments, all under $100, so hopefully i don’t get dinged on duty for most of them, vs. a big $400+ order, where you’re guaranteed to pay duty.

and the prices rock!

If I get the groupset don’t think it can be broken up, any idea how duty is calculated?

I believe it is usually GST + PST and then Canada Post takes like $5 handling fee. I still say it is worth it. I get my Michelin Pro Races from there for like $30 CAN as opposed to over $70 at my LBS.

I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no calculation, they just kinda make it up as they go. That’s probably not the case but it seems like it sometimes. I usually allow 20% to cover taxes/duties and it usually does but I’ve had that amount be way more than it wound up costing and there’s been a couple times when it wasn’t enough. If I understand the rules correctly, things manufactured in the North America aren’t supposed to be dutied but I’ve been charged on things that were made in the U.S. and not charged on things that were made outside North America so I’m not sure exactly how they go about it. Also, many shipping companies baby the shipment through customs (paperwork and paying the taxes/duties) to speed up the process then collect it back from you and some of them add a brokerage fee for doing that (which I think is cheesy but then again I don’t own a shipping company so maybe there’s good reason for it).

It does seem like the rules are, there ain’t no rules. Have you ever ordered anything of significant size? I’ve only ordered small items and have experiences ranging from no charge at all, to other times where I’ve been charged PST, duty, and brokerage fee…
