Prob dont need spped suit for kona to go over tri suit? ive never swam in just a tri suit

i have a 2xu one peice tri suit…i wouldnt mind buying a speed suit to slip over? but i prob woulodnt use it again …i could sell it after kona on ebay…seems like i would get a decent price…but swimming kona in the tri suit will work ? ???

If your trisuit is snug, it should be fine, but if it is at all loose-fitting when dry, it will be 10x as noticeably loose-fitting when you swim with it (and you’ll feel like you are wearing a parachute). I’ve raced in Kona twice, once with a trisuit (a Speedo Fastskin2) and once with a BlueSeventy PointZero3 on top of a different tri suit. I swam about 55 min both time, but the Speedo trisuit was on the tight side to the point of being a little uncomfortable on the run, so while it didn’t slow me down in the water, I guess the lesson I learned was that I could get away with wearing a more comfortably-fitting trisuit by wearing a speedsuit on top of it.

2xu is pretty snug…when dry

Why not try it in the pool?
Generally pockets also create a fair bit of drag.

Find out if anyone has rental or demo suits available. I remember seeing a few at trisports with Demo kind of painted on them.

"Why not try it in the pool? "

How would that boost his “threads with kona in the title” count?

Oh… SNAP!!! LOL.

Hey! I am sure that if I can ever manage to qualify again, I am going to be JUST as enthusiastic!
I’m looking forward to reading Swaco’s race report and hope he has a great time.

Well, the good thing about the kona drive-by posts is that it allows people who have been in the past to put in their own drive-by replies like “Well, the two times I was at kona…” or “If I ever manage to qualify again…”

This is the other positive advantage of wearing a swim-skin - it simplifies clothing and apparel issues in T1 and beyond. However, I note that for the swim-skin to really work in the water and be an advantage there, it does need to fit tight, so make sure that when you are trying on swim-skins for purchase that you wear what you will plan on wearing underneath it while swimming in the race. Same general rule applies as to wetsuit fit - dry, it should be slightly uncomfortably tight. Once wet, it will loosen up.

Many people I have seen wearing swim-skins are wearing them too loose to really help during the swim.

Hope this helps.
