Pro tyre pressures at Taupo

This is extremely intersesting. All these values (Marc’s 60psi optimal), what the riders were choosing and the table all seem to be lower than what the SRAM and Silca calculators would recommend

Remember my roads were REALLY bad, hence why I included the video.
Results were radically different on better roads

I had a friend racing, she was going to run 74/76 psi and she’s 5’11", 140 pounds on HED wheels at Taupo. I pointed out she will be bouncing off the road at that pressure and she went with 54.

(Pity me for the 30+ full 180km rides I’ve done at 110-120psi on 21mm tyres over the last 18 years on that course  And yes also explains how I’ve lost extensions, shifters and bottle cages over the years, thankfully all in training rides. )

If you dont mind sharing what would your guess of total delta between smooth and rough road crr is?

You are right about the men who finished the bike part, but the best time on the bike is Margirier but he took a 5’ penalty before returning to T2. He came out of the water 1’30 behind the leading group.

When I read that, my first thought was “I’ve got to be 80lbs heavier, and I don’t run 77psi in 28mm tires on smooth roads…”

I was bouncing a lot. Didn’t weigh myself recently, but probably 80kg as I haven’t paid attention to diet much since an injury and I cut out nearly all training.

My HED wheels and 28mm tires were filled to 72 and I’m thinking I should have went 65. Definitely was knocked around all over the place. The magnet I super glued my BTA straw to lasted about 10 miles. Hah. Nothing else came apart though.

I will send it to you. Sorry for the delay
