For those who are interested in how pros train, i.e. a day in the life and such, Canadian pro Natasha Filliol has been posting her “road to kona” preparation in a daily blog at: http://competitionzone.com/blog/blogger.html She is currently doing a training camp in Penticton on the IMC course.
She recently annouced a shift from ITU racing to full time focus on Ironman and non-drafting racing, see http://www.xtri.com/headline-v.asp?offset=4 for more details. Stay tuned to see if yet another Canadian woman & speedy runner can make an impact in Kona
I was reading about Natasha’s Iron day where she rode the whole IMC course.
I remembered how I put in my schedules “NON-STOP” for all the US people that have the bad habit of stopping during their long rides… How do you feel about that, stopping during long rides?

I agree, I don’t like stopping generally. Purely a fueling issue on this ride however - I think she drank 9 bottles on that ride, so could only carry 3 on her bike, hence needing to re-load. We try to keep them to <5 mins however.
“She should have raced Lifetime Fitness…the way she’s been racing she’d have made out pretty well!”
Thanks, Natasha was invited to Lifetime, however we decided she would be better served getting in more preparation for later in the season. It was tempting however as the prize money went 12 deep and there were only 12 women starting.

Yeah i know what you mean… when i go for a long ride that’s what it is… a looooong ride. No stopping and goofing off and eating breakfast or drinking coffee. I really dont have a clue where the folks that put huge chunks of break time into their rides are coming from. Granted that I came of age on the bike with a group of people that are highly competitive and stop for NOTHING, except water. It sucks to start up again after a long break… like my out of town group ride this past weekend… they wanted to stop for 30 min… “screw that I’ll just keep going.”
Love your website… went to it today… very funny. You truly are the SMART-ASS-COACH… LOL.
Joel… best of luck to Natascha. It will be fun to watch Kona this October… but sadly… not as much fun as racing it was.
