For all those triathlon bike geeks out there like me:
Cam Widoff, on Oval aluminum bars and a very forward SLR saddle:
Heather Gollnick:
Peter Reid:
Macca on some very low Profile Carbon X bars with Natascha Badmann’s bike behind it which was put together at the last minute by Griffen because her bike got thrashed by the airlines (what a surprise):
I finally got the triathlon gear/bike envy out of me this weekend and realized I’m plenty happy with my bike for the rest of this season and quite possibly for my IM next year.
Now you go and stir it right back up by showing these sweet rides.
But honestly - thanks a ton for sharing these pictures. Those are some amazing bikes and I’d love to get my hands on Peter’s Specialized.
KingK. . .Do you mean the famous CAT got trashed? For Natascha’s sake I hope it is repairable.
Damn the TSA!!! I’ve hated them ever since they threatened to arrest me for getting upset when one of their gorillas chipped my Specialized frame during an inspection! They should create special desks/offices where folks can take usual large objects like bikes, golf clubs, skis, etc to get inspected and processed by folks who are trained specifically to do that job. Their standard goons wouldn’t know a C-40 from a Big Bertha.
Interesting to see that Widoff’s bike is the only one with behind-the-seat water bottles.
That would appear to be to due to the fact that there does not seem to be any water bottle bosses on the down tube or seat tube of the frame to which cages could be mounted (???)!
My point was that everyone seems to be putting their bottles on their frames, and NOT behind their seats. I wonder if this is the new trend and I’m going to have to get rid of my behind-the-seat bottle cage?
I was walking up and down the pro isle and saw a guy with a camera taking lots of pix. Must have been you. Thanks for sharing. Did you notice the funky steerer tube and stem set up Heather used? It had a very long tube sticking out with lots of spacers then a steeply sloped stem angling down. Why not just wack the tube and run a straighter stem? I first saw it at the Tri-Zone booth when she was signing autographs and was going to ask her about it but her Timex team wrench told me not to say anything about it since it would upset her. I thought that was kind of funny. She is a very, very nice lady by the way and what an awesome body!. It is very cool to be able to have a low key conversation with the pros. Seems like most of them are very friendly people.
I noticed this in a QR add in one of the tri mags. She has a bunch of spacers and then a negative rise stem, I was going to ask about it but never did. Anyone have a clue on why she might have this setup?
My only guess is that it can have to do with reach and that she can’t get the same reach with a flat stem?
Do the pro’s trim their bike number decals? Granted, I’m never in the single digits, but maybe I should start carrying sizzors in my tri bag and trim the excess off my bike numbers. I have a hard time getting the number to fit on my seatpost due to my tool bag and aero frames do not have a lot of places to mount numbers. I didn’t know you could get away w/ trimming the excess.
I always carry siccors and electrical tape. I cut the numbers and tape them to my Zipp frame. Nothing hanging out, flapping in the wind and scraping your legs. This even works for races with 4 digit numbers…IF you have a Zipp frame!! : )
