I’m looking for info on PRO Missile Aerobars from someone who has them already on their bike. I know Rabobank uses them (I saw them first at the Tour of California) and I saw them at the expo in Oceanside 70.3 I’m planning to buy a Planet X frame and perhaps replace the original aero carbon bars with PRO bars.
I’ve installed a set of them for a guy who rides for our shop team. They’re pretty light and adjustable. He got the straight version.
The bars did have a problem in that one of hte extensions was a slightly smaller diameter than it should have been so came loose when he rode the bike at Wildflower. It took a while for Shimano to find a replacement extension for us to install. The pads are much more comfortable than they appear.
I’m not sure if they’re available at the moment or not though so ask your LBS about that.
You should go with the PX aerobars. Very adjustable and I think you’ll like them. The shape of the bars make for good hand position, for me anyway. They are also not flexy. IMO they are some of the best bars out there. Disclaimer, yes I’m a PX sponsored athlete. However would not use the bars if i didn’t like them. Sought out PX sponsorship precisely because i liked there stuff.
it might be just me, but the part just below the armrest, which “attaches” the aerobar to the base bar, seems to be an after thought. It’s not very good looking at all. I know I’ll get a lot of grief over that statement, but, a great looking bike deserves a very good looking bar. I’m also trying to stay away from the usual, cervelo frame, vision bars, zipp wheels, etc. The PRO bars are super light and they look really sharp. The frame itself looks awesome, perhaps not a good reason to buy one, but, I plan to ride it, so I might as well like it.
The Pro bars also have a nice drop to the brake lever part, similar to the alloy Vision Carbon Pro and Pro models. Some people prefer that design and with the Pro bars you can use any stem unlike the integrated style of the FSA/Vision ones.
