Today was the Primavera Century in the East bay (SF). Due to a weather prediction for a 60% chance of rain, very few people actually came out. It’s too bad because they missed a fatastic day of riding. Wind was a bit of a bear at times, but we had a paceline and it was a fast 100 miles.
Wow that’s my old stomping ground. Lived in Pleasanton till 5 years ago. Now I’m really homesick. All we had to ride today was 45 mph winds. Somebody save me.
I was there! I bailed at the 100K turn-off instead of 100 miles due to bike mechanical issues and a lack of legs. Great day it turned out to be. They were saying they had planned for 800 people but only 350 showed.
Yeah, those chickens were checking everyone out at that aid station when I was there.
No, nothing SAG could do. I could ride, just not use about half my gears, which made things frustrating (as did the lack of snap in my legs, but that’s another story). I heard it was a bit windy out Livermore way. Grinding up the Dublin Grade into the wind was bad enough. I thought about doing the full 100, but figured I’d get back too late to the City to drop off the bike at the bike shop, so cut it short.
I may get out there to ride this coming weekend on Saturday.
What great photos. I rode many of those same roads on Saturday for the first time. My team did 107 mile loop Mt Hamilton/Livermore/Calaveres loop. It was an awesomely fun ride and so pretty. Del Puerto Canyon was my favorite.
I recognize that last pic - climbing up Cross Rd, maybe 1/4 mile after you turn off Patterson Pass. We’re usually hammering down that in the other direction, then regroup at the top of that roller in the background. Sounds like a great ride, and a much nicer day than anyone was expecting.
