Maybe its just me, but does anyone else think that the 101 pricing scheme acts as a consumer deterent?

I mean, the penalty for signing up later is huge, most races its a $15-$25 penalty if your application is postmarked after a certain date. If I’m a borderline buyer of the 101 product, I sure the hell don’t think I’m going to pay $300 to race when in my mind I knew I could have gotten in for $150 had I signed up earlier. This is classic behavioral finance in action. In this case, “loss aversion” is keeping me from pulling the trigger after June 30th. My “mental accounting” of this potential transaction means that by signing up I’m locking in a $150 loss. Investors exhibit this behavior quite consistently and its no different for consumers.
Again, with a modest penalty the loss is tolerable, however, once you cross the $50-$100 plus mark, you’ve lost me.
