I heard the speech and that’s not what he said. Did you hear another?
I guess this means that you can’t intelligently comment on what he actually said. Thanks for confirming that fact. Please note that adults are trying to have a rational discussion here. You can find some kiddie sites over at Yahoo that should be to your liking.
OK I am being dramatic, but not by much. Basically this speech was a pretty stock pep rally speech about “staying the course, BTW we will probably be there awhile” etc… My point is that the Bush administration is very smart for two reasons:
-
They are never wrong
-
If when they are wrong (which is often), either rally harder or if you have to, change your rallying cry but never admit error.
This is unlike pussy democrats who the moment they finally stand up and say something worth saying, the Republicans cry foul and the Democrats like bunch pansies are apologizing. No wonder why the democrats can’t gain any ground…they are a bunch of push overs. Until they get a spine they don’t deserve to be in the White House.
Thanks Dad.
My problem is that the Adminstration is constantly in the midst of double speak and people are continually buying it. Now that we have this piece of shit situation, we own it. Yes I think it would be a HUGE mistake to leave now, but don’t expect me buy into all the administration propaganda. Do you really think we are there because of 9/11 (which he mentioned 5 times)?
BTW much of what I sarcastically wrote are all things that the administration has said and gone back on- at times even pretending they didn’t say it in the first place. For example, Cheney went on Meet the Press saying that the insurgency was in its final days and soon thereafter Rumsfeld went on saying that the insurgency could last years. I guess my childish memory isn’t quite as selective as yours.
america is full of gutless shits who whine all day long about how things are going wrong is Iraq. Same gutless shits that whined about nam. (diff situation I know) Osama thinks we will run , like clinton did in africa. and when the war gets really hard he counts on the gutless shits like Kenedy and Pelosi to whine about the prezs’ plan. This will then be repeated by the media and the thoughtless sheep here will echo their whine and call for the pull out of our troops.DO YOU WANT TO FIGHT THE TERROIST IN BAGDAD OR DOWN TOWN USA? Pull out now and see how long it takes for them to show up over here (read open border mexico) They are trying to kill us, what about that do you people not understand? They don’t play by the rules of “war” we sill have to.
Wow, that was beautiful. That is pretty much the standard line of the administration - things are FUBAR in Iraq, there is no end in sight, no strategy, but if you question our tactics then you are a gutless sheep and you will be killed in the streets of America by terrorists. Kind of a lap dog approach to the administration and the right wing.
BTW, I think everyone that bitched and whined about Vietnam was right. Our policy in that region was completely and totally fucked - and 50,000+ american lives, 1,000,000+ vietnamese lives, and zillions of dollars could not fix it.
I just don’t understand why anyone thinks that Bush has a plan. Please explain that plan because it is totally confusing and never changing.

Thats fine but Osama wasn’t in Bagdad. That makes about as much sense as if the US would have attacked China after Pearl Harbor.
i do question moves that were made in Iraq like the one not to make it a giant parking lot. Much faster, lot less troops put in harms way. Also makes a huge statement to the Muslim nutballs trying to kill us, we do not screw around. flash to now ,hind sight is 20/20 and armchair quarterbacks always throw touchdowns. After 9-11 this country has a choice to make, stomp these people out or live in fear. That is real not some political crap spouted in washington by either side . Seems clear who i is willing to fight to keep me safe. And please explain to me why people cant remeber that 9-11 happened. If they were able to make it hapen once they will surely try again unless we get them first, wherever that may be. I prefer that this be done some where else besides here.
Yes, we are there because of the threat of terrorism, as exemplified most dramatically by 9/11.
I am really sorry you are so troubled by suicide bombers in Baghdad. Will you people get a reality check, please? If we pick up our marbles, how long do you think it will be until we have them in Disneyland?
I remember back when Democrats were in favor of helping other countries and addressing the “root causes” of problems. I remember when a Democratic president noted that we do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard. Mix in bear any burden, pay any price along with Ask not what your country can do for you.
Will one of you Bush bashers step up to the plate and answer my question? Was bin Laden right when he described us as decedent and corrupt needing only a few hard blows to knock over?
Not so long as I or any of the troops at Bragg have anything to say about it.
you said it
.
**Seems clear who i is willing to fight to keep me safe. **
Now YOU sound like a gutless shit.

Please explain to us how 9/11 has anything to do with Iraq?
It makes sense that we use our military to fight instead as opposed to flight attendants. We are using our military to draw them out. Out into Iraq, not out in NY. And how do any of us know where osama is or is not. I haven’t seen him or his people in the skys over the US since we went to Afg or Iraq.

You think real terrorists are dumb enough to waste their energy on our troops in Iraq?
sorry about the typo dipshit. Isthat the best you can come up with.
sure looks that way. Have you noticed any coming down your street lately?
Had nothing to do with the typo. Although I had plenty to choose from…
I hope you will eventually notice that we are fighting a war on terrorism. Specifically, a war on terrorism radiating out of the Middle East.
If you have a better plan to win that war other than completely changing the political dynamics of the region thereby draining the swamp, this would be a good time to put it on the table. If you have a better vehicle than Iraq, you might want to mention it.
This is not complicated. I know adamb can’t connect dots even if they overlap, but maybe some here can do better.
“You think real terrorists are dumb enough to waste their energy on our troops in Iraq?”
Do you think terrorists are some sort of super smart evil geniuses? Of course some of them are dumb enough to engage our troops in Iraq. Evidence comes in daily of the large percentages of the opposition that are not Iraqi, but foreign fighters. Those are the same guys that are usually busy strapping bombs to their chests for a stroll in downtown Jerusalem.

Art, I simply don’t believe anything we do in Iraq is going to affect international terrorism. And I’m still waiting on the explanation on how 9/11 and Iraq are tied to each other, and how any stabilizing that country is going to eliminate our risk of another attack.
Terrorists don’t camp out in the same spot or follow our military around, they are all over the world plotting in every country. And they are probably laughing that we think starting a war in Iraq is going to disrupt their plans. They target innocent civilians, not our armed forces.
so instead, we stay in iraq, allow the terrorists to become better terrorists(according to gov’t reports), who then leave iraq to look for targets in europe/u.s.(as stated this evening by wes clarke)? smart.
given the adaptive ability of the terrorists in iraq, am i to believe they are incapable of adjusting then attacking here? how many guys does it take to make a significant impact here? what have we done to secure the borders here? isn’t it a big risk to assume that simply engaging the terrorists in iraq means they won’t come here?
i remember when shrubya said he didn’t do nation building and was demanding an exit strategy from bill clinton in the balkans.
we aren’t talking about a few hard blows–we’re talking about years of engagement, even rumsfeld himself talked of 5-12 years(right after he defended the last throes nonsense). furthermore, we brought all this on ourselves. iraq wasn’t necessary. period. the occupation plan was laughably inaccurate and ill-conceived. even now, the goals are so nebulous as to be almost without meaning. it’s almost like the supreme court’s “i’ll know it when i see it” approach to pornography–i mean when is iraq going to be free? when are they going to be self-sufficient? i don’t mean time–i mean milestones.
