500 sub 3:30 marathons - That seems like a good goal to pursue, I am wondering there are other similar ones people have? Also any records for fastest consecutive (day after day) marathons?
What about the goal of winning an “age group national championship” in at least one event during your lifetime? E.g., winning the USAT AG oly distance race and/or the 400, 800, 1500 m, 5K, and/or 10K at the USMS Championships, or the 5K or 10K at the USATF AG Champs. I’m hoping to maintain my abilities as best I can and out-live all the guys who are faster than me. If I ever manage to do it, in say my 90s, then I can say “I trained 90 yrs for this”
Hey, whatever floats his boat. But, it does not strike me as a very rewarding goal. I’d prefer a little more variety in my life than running a marathon every other weekend for 24 years.
I created the lifetime goal of racing Kona. Due to many factors, the only way I’m going to get there is the legacy program. You can follow my progress by reading my signature line.
It’d also be cheaper to just pay for a charity slot. 1 charity slot is cheaper than 9 more ironmans. I’m sure enjoying the journey (i.e the 9 races) is a big factor in pursuing the legacy program entry, but to say it’s the only way to go seems to exclude some reasonable options.
Oh, I would take a lottery slot in a heartbeat! I’ve never entered, though. My success rate in those types of endeavors has been extremely low. I also don’t like the fact that it costs $50 (I think). Don’t know why when entry to a single race is $700 plus Active fees.
On a side note, aren’t charity slots going for $40,000? I can’t come up with that kind of cash all at once. I’ve driven to all 3 of my races so far (Louisville 2x, Florida 1x) so that really keeps costs down. Also, the way I do Louisville (arrive Friday, race Sunday, leave Monday) also keeps lodging to a minimum.

Unfortunately by the time you get close, legacy program probably will not be around any more, or substantially changed where current qualifications will be much harder to reach.
