Presidential traverse and mount Washington road race (run)

Anybody ever done the presidential traverse (25.5 miles)? I heard some people are doing it in one day and was thinking about it? Any info on that?

Anybody did the mount Washington road race (run)?

Mtn washington, you know the big BUMP…

I’ve run it. Practice running on steep hills alot. My achilles wasn’t real happy with all of the running on the balls of my feet on the steep bits.

I’ve heard that if you make a donation to the chairity the race supports it increases your chances of getting in.

Matt

I just heard about this race. It’s hard too get in? How hard? What do you have to do?

Mt Washington has a lottery. If you’ve done the race multiple times it is easier to get in. You enter the lottery and if you don’t get picked they send you back your money and I think even your donation if you want. I’m not sure of the percentage of peope that get in each year.

re - mount washington – i recall them only taking your money if you get selected. it is a great race - i have done it a few times.

good luck.

Re the traverse, I’ve done it as a hiking trip in 3 days (dragging my old man along). You could definitely do it in a day if you’re in good enough shape. Lots of rocky terrain though, you’ll want some strong ankles. And lots of exposure. That’s the cool part, but you need to be prepared for the conditions.

hey richard,
i did the traverse about a month ago. if you’re doing it this summer, do it soon - might get hard after another month - get started early. we did it in just over 15 hours - but we definitely stopped for awhile at washington, etc. 13-14 shouldn’t be too bad. boatload of fun, except for the crowds on washington - course that was july fourth weekend, so go figure. oh yeah, and you definitely want to be done and eating before most of the restaurants around the notch close up - 10ish. oh, and watch how much you eat on washington (i had like three hotdogs and as many slices of pizza)- my stomach was dying for the next ten miles.

enjoy it!

This year about 60% of the lottery entrants got in, as they had about 1800 apps for 1000 spots. Only the top 10 from the previous year and all past winners can get a bye. The race was actually easier than I thought, although it was not windy at all, which is unusual.

As for the traverse, I think I have done most of it when I was in college. We did 4 days on the AT including Washington and a bunch of the presidentials, but I don’t remember if we did the whole traverse. That actually was very hard because you are lugging a pack and such. We did get a beautiful sunny day on Washington though.
