Prefontaine Classic

Austrailian Craig Mottram wins the Prefontaine Classic 2 mile race. Being interviewed nationwide on NBC after the race:

** Reporter:** “You chased a very fast pace. it come down to just guts at this point? Just inner… The desire to win you know, when you are caught up in that quick pace.”

Mottram: “Ah, it comes down to the size of your balls really, if you got… enough guts to go with it…”

** Mottram: "I always am going to go with the pace. **If I can’t keep up, at least I know I got beat fair and square."

When they cut back to the booth the folks were almost in hysterics. “You have to love those Aussies”

LOL! I missed that one…

No kidding, I just logged on to ST to post something about that. That was a classic line!

And what a race! Neck and neck until Mottram just pulled away from Bekele (the younger one) in the last 200m. He put over a second on Bekele in the final 200m!

When they were cutting to the interview, I yelled at T-Racer, “Come here, quick! They’re about to interview Buster on live tv. This is going to be awesome.”
He never fails to deliver : )

How about Nic Symmonds winning the 800m and Matt Tegenkamp breaking the American 2-mile record?!

The entire meet was pretty fantastic. Nic Symmonds had a great run at the end of the 800!

The men’s 110 hurdles was pretty intense. We almost had a demolition derby.

Tegenkamp was awesome. Unfortunately the announcers treated his AR as an afterthought. Would have been nice to hear from him after they did the Mottram interview.

Thanks!

The beginning of that Mottram interview is great after last weeks Flotrack interview at Reebok.

The 2 mile and the 800 were both great. I was hoping to see a little more from Webb after last weeks performance. Guess it just wasn’t there.

I’m not a huge follower of track and field but was in a sports bar yesterday for lunch and the Prefontaine was on so I got sucked in. WOW, that was some awesome stuff to watch. The 800 was incredible and I was just amazed watching the Steeple Chase at how much of a lead he opened it up too.

It’s always inspiring to watch masters of their craft.

It was fun to see two former Carolina runners take top American honors in the women’s 1500 (Shalane) and 800 (Alice). They were both third overall, but I figure that’s still pretty good. My wife roomed with them for a summer a few years ago in undergrad, so I like to pretend like I know them. I like to tell people that I slept in Shalane’s bed one night, of course she was out of town and it was with my wife. Another Carolina woman took home the gold in the NCAA 1500 race.

Our baseball team is also headed to the College World Series. If you can’t tell, I’m all about UNC pride right now.

Yes, Mottram is truly a classic, both on and off the track! Formerly strictly a triathlete in his junior days, brownie points around here!!!

Ya, he’s just another one of those silly retired triathletes that will never make it in one of the single sports, like Lance…(-;
That’s very impressive, I was just made aware of the guy here on an earlier thread last month, and I looked up his tri credentials, and he probably could have gone either way…Looks like he went the right way, but it still would have been great to see him get off in the ITU pack, and watch him run from there…
