11:21…or something, I think.
So he gets a medal? Or not because he was on a realty tv show?
I say 12:00. Is this price is right rules? If you are over you are disqualified?

13:37. But his wife meets him at the finish line with a rose! Blah!
Whatever it is, I’m sure we are going to suffer through 30 minutes of his “very special” story out of the 60 minute NBC Kona coverage while Jan Sibberson goes off the front for the first 3 hours of the race and yields less than 60 seconds of total coverage. Ken Glah will race hard in the top ten all day and will get no coverage. Simon Lessing will either blow or win, and will get the most coverage of any pro. Tim DeBoom will be left on the editing room floor even though he ends up third. Cam Brown will have a break through race running stride for stride with the eventual winner from mile 10 on but will only be mentioned as ‘the other guy’. The womens race will be covered while the credits are rolling and the voice over is talking about the football game about to start.
Meanwhile, back at the Sutter home in Colorado we’ll get an indepth story of Ryan’s dramatic recovery from an ingrown toenail. Yawn.
He’s just another countless age-grouper. I hope he does well and accomplishes his goal. But please, don’t make us suffer through the coverage!
If he goes 12:59 and beats the slowtwitch elitest cutoff, do we invite him to chat with us on this forum, or then do we move the elitest cutoff to 12:58 :-). What if he goes 10.00. Do we move the elitest cutoff to 9:59 or to 10.01 ? I really need to know as I have to start making plans to beat the elitest cutoff in 2006 :-).
Happy training and racing to all.
But that leaves no time for coverage of Marc Herremans!
Which reminds me: Was I the only one who thought it odd that OLN covered the Marc Herremans story during their coverage of… IM Coeur d’Alene?

Hey, lets be honest. 98% of the folks eating Cheetos on the sofa consider a long run to be the trek to the refrigerator to get another beer. They don’t give a damn about DeBoom or anyone else. They do want to see some suffering and some human interest stories as their arteries harden. That’s all. There isn’t enough of a triathlon market for TV to care about us. We, as a group, don’t buy enough Bud to fill the network larder. It’s a freak show for NBC. If they think using a big name - and don’t forget that in the nation’s dim mind, Ryan is a bigger name than ANY triathlete - will help with the ratings, that’s what we’ll see.
That’s neither good nor bad, that’s just the way it is. To pretend otherwise is to howl at the moon. And what the heck, if it gets one person off the sofa and moving, that’s not a bad side effect. For me, that’s the effect the Eco-Challenge had a few years ago. I put down the Cheetos and Guiness, bought some running shoes and started moving. Sure, it’s presented as pablum, but 3 years and countless miles of running, biking, swimming, hiking, scuba diving and kayaking later, it was good enough for me.

who’s ryan sutter?
Who?
Well, if you’ve ever bought ‘People Magazine’, ‘US Magazine’ or watched whatever stupid reality TV show is big right now, then you have no one to blame but yourself. These people don’t make themselves famous (and I use that word very loosely), the morons that watch them on TV and read about them in the celebrity stalker magazines make them famous.
Quote - “Who’s ryan sutter?”
My sentiments exactly
Ryan Sutter is a babe! He has also turned out be an awesome triathlete and would smoke 98% of the Slowtwitch Political Observers…I mean triathletes.
Or even better…an idea here…throwing this around in my head…tell me what you think.
- For every person he beats, every “No Sutter” on Slowtwitch, has to pay $1 buck, for every person he beats, to that Firemen’s Fund charity he is helping. And, for everyone who beats Ryan Sutter, Monk has to pay $1 dollar to the charity.
…Hey Monk…mark down…
Tri Sherri…on the “Pro Sutter Pledge Side”. That’s one.
Ryan WHO?
What was your time? Finishing in the upper 28% of your age group at a IM Qualifying race in your first half is a solid respectable race! He kicks ass because he is a babe!
Top 28% means that better than one out of four people finished in front of him. He’s what, 45+ minutes away from actually qualifying? Whoop-Dee! It’s great the pretty boy is raising money for a cause he believes in. And it sounds like he’s done the homework and should finish Hawaii. And yes, he’s probably good to help ratings and pull people away from the gold tournament on the other channel, I just resent the fact that I’m going to have to suffer though it in order to see a few seconds of race coverage.
If we are betting: I’ll be $1 that Ryan’s coverage is more than the entire women’s race combined. How crappy is that? Anyone care to take that wager? Or is having some pretty boy race “women’s” coverage because all my gal friends who were glued to the tv for the bachelor will be stoked to see him running around in a speedo?
I don’t think that we will have to suffer through any coverage of Ryan’s emotional and physical journey through the lava fields and the shots of Trista waiting and wondering at the finish (actually, that would not be a bad thing!). It is my theory that NBC will not feature Ryan at all because he is a made for TV celebrity by a competitive network – ABC! I highly doubt that NBC would give airtime to promote another networks show.
We can only hope that the only coverage is via the propaganda from the self-fulfilling M dot machine (Ironman Live) and maybe a People Magazine article that we see lying on the table at the Dentist’s office. The mere fact that he is even allowed a slot is a complete joke and an insult to the race and all those who get there via legitimate means…
I can only hope and pray that you are correct! I want to see coverage of Lori running down Alii drive to another Kona win!
Forget NBC. Watch all 17 hours of video feed on ironmanlive.com if you care about the actual race. As usual, NBC will have a packaged wrap up of the race including special interest stories… No need to watch that.
As to the original post; 11:42
does anyone know how to record the live ironmanlive video feed? My sister is getting married on Saturday night and I am going to miss most of the run portion.
Thanks,
NSXDAN
The fact that many of you have this info, like who this guy is and apparently who his girlfriend/wife/mother is, on the tip of your tongue amazes me. I hope you all were at least riding your trainers while filling your long term memory with the stuff.
I had to look this guy up. I don’t think I would be allowed out of the house in this shirt.
