Pr0n from the Slowtwitch Classifieds

I was taking pictures of my road race bike and realized that almost the entire bike came from the Slowtwitch Classifieds. I bought the frameset here, the rear rim here about two weeks ago, the seat post and most of the drivetrain came from a QRoo that I bought here a couple of years ago…it’s scary.

So anyway, I figured I’d post a pic, even though it’s sort of a crosspost from bikeforums. I was taking pictures because I just finished my new Powertap wheel and I’m stoked! PT SL wired hub, Planet X 101 32 spoke tubular rim. 14 gauge stainless black spokes from Mike Garcia at Odds and Endos, Sapim inverted brass nipples.

This rim is from Gigantex, the same as the Vuelta rim that’s on the front. They are a total pain in the ass to build, in case anybody’s wondering. I had to make a special spoke nipple tool just to reach the nipples through the 101mm rim, and you’re basically feeling around blind to thread and tighten them.

It’s not especially light, but it’s not a tank, either. The bike weighs in at 17.5 lbs; with the 50mm rear it was just under 17. I’ll be racing this bike like this, and putting a disk cover on it for time trials on the P3. With the spoke count and rim depth, I think it’ll be sturdy enough to train and race on, so that’s what I’m planning. I have about $700 in the wheel/PT system.

Now the all important question: should I spring for some custom Tai stickers so the stupid wheels match? If so, what should they say? This is complicated by the fact that the factory basically covered the front wheel; I’d have to have pretty much complete coverage to hide all of that crap. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice, she is beautiful

That back wheel looks crazy. Do you ever feel it in crosswinds?

Much as I hate saying things like this, you really need to match the stickers to the frame. Sorry, I know I know, but you do. Other wise it has a bit of the Frankenbike look to it.

No surprise that it looks like a Frankenbike, because that’s exactly what it is. I may sand off all of the wheel decals and recoat, but it’ll be a while since I don’t care enough right now and I’m ready to put some mileage on Frankengiant.

Either match the wheel stickers, or remove them. Nothing wrong with all black carbon rims.
