They don’t work with multiple hubs.
I didn’t believe them and tried it on a friend’s hub. No go.
You’re going to have to fork over the $100 if you want the update.
This is not fact, but conjecture based upon how I would do it if I were writing the software.
From a software engineering approach, the concept is simple. Allow for multiple “transactions” to be started, but once one is “successful”, you write back into the program or firmware binary that it is now “done”.
