I’ve searched through the forum and haven’t been able to find these questions answered anywhere so here goes. I am considering getting a powertap and was wondering if 1) I could use it on two different bikes (Cervelo Team Soloist and P2K) by just switching out the rear wheel and buying a second set of magnet/reader thingies, and 2) can you put a powertap on a set of Zipps? I read somewhere that there are problems with putting it on aero wheels.
Thanks,
Bob
The Power Tap hub builds into a wheel; as such, you can put it on any bike with the correct spacing and shifting. Each bike will need it’s own receiver harness (“magnet/reader thingies”).
The Power Tap is a hub, like any other hub as far as building a rear wheel (except that it shouldn’t be laced radially, I think). It’s drilled 24, 28, and 32 holes. Use with any rims of the appropriate spoke count.
Yes you can purchase a second wiring harness and use the wheel on a second bike. That is what I did but I also purchased a second hub and had it built into a training wheel. Talk to Richard at www.wheelbuilder.com
Another option would be the Bontrager Power-Tap carbon wheel, and I believe Spinergy is/will be selling one built around the Tillium rim. And you could always build it with a Zipp rim…not all that difficult, as it is just a hub, nothing different about it other than the electronics in it.
I have a 24h Pro laced to a Hed Jet 90…planning on training and racing with it.
