Powertap Pro+ or SL+

I am about to put a powertap in my HED Jet60 (2007 model) Is the SL+ (bigger axle and lighter) worth the extra?

Any thoughts on putting a powertap in the jet60, it was laced 2x/2x in anticipation

I would love to have a c2 90 or 808 with power but don’t want to spend that much.

Thanks guys

If you allready have the Jet 60 ask HED if the spoke holes on the fairing will line up correctly.

Hed won’t do it and the spokes will not line up, you will have to re drill a hole or two in the carbon fairing to allow the spokes to line up with the drilled holes in the rim and in the PT hub.

When I had the wheels built this was the response from HED

We can build your wheel with a PT wireless hub. If you want to do the hub at a later date be sure to have us build the rear 2x/2x. The stock lacing is 2x/radial but that won’t work on a PT hub. -Andy

rock on…good call on your end…i bought a Jet 90 last summer with the intention of putting a PT on it later on…as i was ready to do i found out that the it couldn’t be done etc etc etc…wheeelbulder said they can do it and just have to drill a hole or two in the carbon…costs about 200 they said…was going to do it but decided to get a new C2 wheelset with a PT… i will remember that in the future about the 2x/radial lacing…so for all interested the Hed Jet 90 will go up for sale in the spring when i get back…its with the stock blue stickers…did one sprint on them…good luck with your new kit

I don’t know about the axle, but it’s around $14/gram to shed the weight. That’s a LOT to pay for gram-shaving. I personally draw a hard line @ $4/gram, and I’m a self-admitted weight-weenie.

According to wheelbuilder.com: The pro axel has alot of flex, not so with the 15mm SL. They recommend the Elite axel in the pro hub, if you go with the pro for a training wheel, and not the SL. That is most likly what I will do.

The weight of a 24 hole SL+ hub is 425 grams (heavier than PT advertises). So it’s probably even more $/gram than you say (assuming the Pro+ weight is advertised correctly- which I doubt) Their old 2.4 hubs were on average approx 427 grams. I’ve weighed 1 of the new SL+ and 3 of the older ones- 2.4 wireless.

I was told by my wheel builder that they have been less than impressed with the SL+ bearings. I was informed that I would need to replace the bearings sooner than with the PRO+. I don’t know if this is true…just relaying some info.

FWIW - I still went with the SL+.
