Hey ST’ers,
I have been using my Powertap for just over a year now and never had issues. Recently I have been trying to reset my torque via the LYC (Little Yellow Computer) and it never works. I follow the directions to a “T” and it just constantly flashes (the word “watts”), but the number never goes to zero. It constantly shows between 20-22, but won’t reset. I have tried emailing support 3 days ago and haven’t received a reply of any kind yet. I have tried using the directions in three different methods with no luck. Any ideas?

  1. Spin crank to wake up the hub, then follow directions - Doesn’t work.
  2. Spin crank to wake up the hub and keep the wheel spinning while trying to follow directions (on a bike rack/mechanic stand) - Doesn’t work.
  3. While riding, unclip shoes and try to follow directions (so no pressure is on the cranks, just rolling on flat road) - Doesn’t work

Anyone know how to fix this and reset my torque to zero? (don’t get me wrong, seeing these numbers is awesome, but I know they have to be off a little)
Thanks,
tc_tri_texan

This happened to me and I ended up having to send it in for repairs.
Call up support, they seem better on the phone than by email. I was
walked through some diagnostics over the phone before figuring out
that things were bad enough to need to send it in. Wasn’t ideal to
have to get it fixed, but all things considered they were pretty reasonable
about it (had to pay a few hundred bucks I think).

call, don’t email Saris. you wait 10-15 minutes at most, and they are very helpful.

Otherwise, go into testing menu. Hold down both buttons until you enter the testing screen. Scroll through until the letter “t” is flashing. Enter it and go to screen 3. You’ll see something like this.

Top line is the adjusted reading

Middle is signal sent by hub. Bottom is the adjustment. Middle and bottom should be 512+/- 12. If not, try to switch hub batteries. If that doesn’t work, you probably got a wack torque tube.

Sounds like something is up. Give them a call, they are really cool on the phone.
Worst case is you send it in & they usually have full turnaround in 3-5 days.

Mine is always at 0 or -0, so I’d assume yours should be close to the same.
