PowerTap Intermittent Signal Loss

This morning while on the triainer my PT started to drop the signal. It was doing this with some regularity (every 30-45 seconds) for anywhere from a split second to 5 seconds. Both batteries are new and I have the new receiver unit (the shark fin). Any thoughts, similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sometimes I lose my signal when my shark fin receiver is a little too far from the unit. When I correct that it’s usually fine. But I actually hear of quite a few people who lose their signal and quite often it’s for different reasons. I’m sure more will chime in.

i had intermittent losses while riding on the trainer due to sweat dripping all over the head unit and (i think) shorting the contacts on the bottom of the head unit. i did have the problem when outside, but it was far worse inside where i sweat even more.

when i moved the head unit a bit and/or covered it partially with a towel the problem disppeared.

i havent had any issues with the receiver unit on the seat stay…i have both types of receivers and they are both mounted very high on the seat stay just below the brake with no reception issues.

hope the solution to your problem is this easy.

It is VERY annoying when it happens.

Which there is no rhyme or reason to. (Thankfully it is fairly infrequent.)

Mine seems mostly to be related to getting moisture (sweat, splash from aerobottle, condensation from aerobottle, rain) under the harness where the computer snaps in. I don’t think it has anything to do with the hub/receiver interface, at least in my case - see below:

When I take it off, wipe that area w/ my glove, and put it back on, it works fine again.

I’ve used WD40 or Boeshield on the connections w/ varying degrees of success.

High voltage power lines overhead seemed to interfere a lot with my signals.

Sometimes (not very often at all) that happens to me on the road. A quick tap with my shoe to move the receiver unit closer to the hup solves the problem

High voltage power lines overhead seemed to interfere a lot with my signals. TV and other electronics could interfere in the great indoors also.
