Powertap help (3)

I have a wired powertap (the top model before they went to the wireless, the SL i think?) and am having some problems.

I was riding indoors today, and after moving the computer mount, seem to have caused something to stop working. it will not connect with the hub anymore and give the little icon in the top left corner.

I am trying to dry out the hub (batteries are good) to see if that makes a difference, but I am thinking I have wrecked the wires.

Is there a way to a. fix the computer mount wiring without destroying it? b. convert the unit to wireless transmission? c. find somewhere that sells the computer mounts for <$120cdn…it seems like a fortune to pay for a receiver and a bit of wire.

A) Maybe but I don’t think so. Best place to ask would be the wattage list on GoogleGroups
B) Yes, for $300 and mailing it to Saris, plus a new computer head
C) They retail for ~$70 American.

I have a couple spare computer mounts if you need one. $40 plus shipping. PM me if you need it. I have bought two used PTs in the last three years and both came with two computer mounts.

How are the batteries in your head unit? Do you get speed readings at all?

Do you have the shark fin receiver?
How (and where exactly) is it mounted?

I had a LOT of problems until I found a couple of tricks (thanks to the google groups list!).

so i tried it on my second computer mount today, and still nothing. i am getting speed readings, but nothing else. i am going to try replacing the batteries on both the hub and the computer to see if that helps, and then reassess.

anyone ever have the watts label dissapear? i think that means it’s in torque mode, but pressing the select button again doesn’t take it out of torque mode.

i’m so confused, and have read th PT manual a whole bunch of times to no avail.

Ah ha! You put it in cyclocomputer mode. I believe you go to average cadence and hold one of the buttons down for two seconds to toggle between the two modes. Read the manual, it’s both on line and has the definitive answer on how to take it out of that mode. Your hub and computer are fine.

mayhew is right.
I had the same problem when I was setting mine up.
Check out the manual on the Saris website and download the correct one.

okay, i got it out of cyclometer mode; however, it still doesn’t pick up power (the reciever icon in the top left isn’t appearing).
i switched bikes and harnesses, and still nothing.

i’ve changed the batteries in both the hub and computer…frick, this is getting annoying!

Your hub is probably dead then.

just got off the phone with the saris. it sounds like the batteries died on me during the workout, and I put them in the wrong way when replacing them (i followed the + and - on the chip vs. putting them the same way :P). both harnesses seem to be working now!!!

i also let the hub air out overnight again, so that may have helped too.

thanks to everyone for your suggestions, they were much appreciated!

cheers,

I did that too. I simply thought I was a moron for not being able to figure out the markings. I’m glad they are not entirely clear and that you got your unit sorted out.
