PowerTap Heart Rate Zero

Hey guys/gals,

I’m new with the PowerTap. I bought a wired Powertap SL, and have been thoroughly enjoying it for a couple months. An issue that I’m having is that the HRM sporadically loses signal, and records zeros in the data. I replaced the CR2032 battery in both the head unit and in the heart rate strap. Any advice? See this screenshot from my ride today:

Sure…now that you have a power meter, ditch the strap…seriously.

listen to the watts… they are trying to tell you something… the truth!

Ok, so aside from the purists who want me to ditch the HRM (which I think is a bad idea), does anybody have any experience or technical advice to make this thing work right?

  • Why do pro tour riders wear HRMs? Guess they just like wearing the man-bra?
  • On race day, many people believe HRM on the bike is VERY important (on long course).
  • I never said I trained based on heart rate. Just another useful metric in the big picture.

Thanks!

I tend to agree with the previous two points that power is the key. However, it can be interesting to track the HR data as well. If putting saliva on the strap is not working well, order some SpectraGel or some “buh bump” cream. These two products should help improve the HRM strap’s function. Good luck.
