Powertap freehub

Hello,

Currently I own a Powertab hub with campy freehub. I decided to go to shimano to match with the shimano shifter I have, and I bought the kit conversion to shimano.
The problem is per their instructions I need to use a special Dupon Krytox grease or another one that I don’t remenber but couldn’t find any of those easily to buy through internet.
I’ve heard that an light oil could do the job on the freehub pawls.

Has anybody here already did this conversion ? Which grease or oil did you use it ?

Thanks,

Luiz

This is the biggest circus act of all time. Which grease to use on the PT hub? Call Saris and they’ll act like anything will do. I bought some Finish Line synthetic grease that has DuPont product in it. Actually, it’s the DuPont Teflon grease with Finish Line branding. That’s all. You’ll pay $12 for it and use maybe a drop the size of a large booger to grease the pawls.

Personally, save your money and put a very light or tiny amount of 3 in 1 oil or just about any light oil you can find on the pawls. Done deal.

You do know that you are going to need to re-dish the wheel yes? Also, the instructions in the manual for the placement of the washers is not correct either…

To redish I know … now , about the placement of the washers I have no idea … could you help me ?

I think that it is page 36 of the user guide that has images of where the washers go - fact of the matter is that you are going to need to get the wheel re-dished if you go Shimano from Campy (or the other way). Not sure where anyone gets the “steel” washers as the only ones I have ever been able to get are Alu.

Yes you are correct … there are no steel washers … my conversion kit came with two , and I thought should be three by the instructions , but I realized that I’m gonna use one of the washers that is installed with the campy freehub. ( I’m switching from campy to shimano ).

Check the thickness of the washers as compared to the user manual…what you are going to be doing is going to a hardware store as if you use all three your 130mm spacing will not be 130mm
