I wonder if anyone has figured a way to do hill intervals where the interval is the climb part and not also the downhill. I know you can create another interval for the downhill to separate. Is there an easier way to do this with the new Joule?? Like pause?
pause? why would you want to do that? what is wrong with a second interval? I guess you could stop and take the magnet off your wheel, or have some sort of electrical relay that turns off the magnetic signal when you want it to.

I think this will do what you want. Hold down the MODE button for 2 seconds and there will be three choices flash up on the screen. I think one of them will give you a pause option. Highlight the correct choice with the joystick and then press in the joystick. I am not at home right now where the Joule is, but I think I am right.
Try it and see.

Thanks Greg.
I am actually getting mine tomorrow. I have been checking the pdf manual to get familiar. I will try that! With the old unit, I ended up pushing interval again so every other interval was me going downhill but the way the Joule is set up I would rather not have those mixed in.
Is the display easier to read than the standard CPU in sun, etc?
I heard that the Garmin Edge 500 was very hard to read with lots of reflection at certain angles.
Thanks again!
Well, I never had a Garmin Edge, so I can’t offer up a comparison there. As far as sunlight readability, it seems fine. There are other factors that I like about the Joule, like:
More data in the display that can be seen without any button pushing. I know you don’t need all of the data, but I like to have different data for different rides.
Related to the point above, I like being able to see IF and normalized power when I do the local roadie ride since they love doing surges, hammer the hills, and sprints. It’s hard to know just how many matches you are burning, but having the TSS and normalized power on the display helps. For me, I know when it’s time to drop off the back. ![]()
For my long, slow solo rides, I like having normalized power and heart rate in the display along with total kilojoules and miles ridden.
If you ride hills a lot, the Joule can display all kinds of climbing data since it includes a barometric altimeter that I have found to be very accurate. You can display the percent grade, altitude gained, and VAM.
The download into PA takes about 1/4 as long as with the little yellow computer.
FWIW,
Greg

At the start of the interval, I hit the interval button (on the Jouile, which is one push of the button on the right side). At the end of the interval, I hit that button again.
When you coast down the hill and then start the next interval, I hit the interval button again when I start, and again at the end of the interval, hit the button again.
When I down load to Power Agent, then the intervals are clearly already marked off. I just click on the interval and rename the interval and I actually write in the NP for that interval so I can easily see what it is when I go back to that file. So, the interval does not include the rest period between the intervals.

OK, I checked this out with my Joule at home and it’s actually easier than I thought. Just hold down the mode button for about two seconds and it pauses the unit. When you are ready to climb again, just push the joystick in while ‘Resume Ride’ is highlighted. Resume Ride is the first choice on the screen and is highlighted by default, so you don’t have to select it, just push the joystick in.
Greg
Right.
So you can delete the intervals for the downhills like the regular CPU and rename.
Good information.
Looking forward to trying it out when I get it! Would not have gotten the unit if it wasn’t for constant problems with basic CPU. This is my third one in one year. They gave me an upgrade option because of my bad luck history.
