Powercrank questions

Hey all -

So I have powercranks on my only bike (road geometry). Using them for the past few months. I am contemplating a 2nd bike (Yaqui - tri geometry). Now I’d like to get compact cranks as I am a wimp when it comes to pushing any watts and we measure climbs around here in the 1000’s of feet. So if I want to remain a powercrank-only rider for training to see if they actually work - what can I do? I assume the powercranks won’t fit the compact cranks/BB and if I buy a new bike - I’d like to ride it - plus I’d have to get used to the change in position. Opinions?

Thanks

Dave

I keep my PowerCranks on my road bike…regular cranks on my Yaqui. I don’t ride the Yaqui but once every 4-5 rides, just to keep used to the aero position. I never have ridden the PC’s enough in the aero position to be able to ride them for long periods of time in the aero position…it’s probably possible (although hard to accomplish), but I have limited time to train and haven’t made that attempt. I’m not missing riding my Yaqui (time trial bike) simply because my neck begins to really hurt after much more than an hour in a very low front-end position, and, since sprints are the only thing on my race schedule for a couple of months, I just leave the front end low and don’t usually ride more than 25-30 miles at a time on it.

What you may find is your Yaqui climbs so well, you start to NOT ride your road bike! Unless you are riding in a group that shuns tri-setups for safety reasons, the tri-setup on your Yaqui may serve you exceptionally well for climbing. Putting PC’s on it will further help your climbing. I don’t know if the Shimano splined BB and FSA are the same…if they are, there would be no problem with PC’s on that BB, you could switch them whenever you wanted. It doesn’t take but a few minutes.
