PowerAgent on Vista?

Anybody here have issues with running the PowerTap software on Vista? PowerAgent 7.4 just shows a splash screen and then disappears. Anybody have the older 7.0 or 7.1 software? I think that used to work.

Ok, the 7.01 software works… but the 7.4 doesn’t. But it still won’t connect to the head unit. Anybody ever have trouble with that?

I have no trouble with 7.1.1 on Vista in general. However, I have heard of people sometimes having their systems be picky about the order which the powertap is put on the cradle, turned on, and the software launched.

7.4.3 works like a charm. Start the program with the cradle connected, then put the powertap into the cradle after the program has started up.
On the other hand, I cannot download from my PTap within TrainingPeaks, I need to download the file via PowerAgent and then import it into TrainingPeaks.

Ok, tried all that. Nothing works. Is there a way to try out the TP software without paying for it first so I can make sure it even works?

Yes, go to the site and download the 30 day demo. You will need to make sure that TrainingPeaks is looking to the proper COM port for the PTap USB downloader (find the address in the control panel, and then set TrainingPeaks accordingly). There is a wiki page about it, and you can get there via the TrainingPeaks “help” button.
You may also try to uninstall and reinstall the PTap USB drivers. You should actually do that first.

No problem here downloading into TrainingPeaks on Vista. YOu need to use the same USB port every time for some reason and make sure that you have the right USB port selected in the software. For my setup, it is COM5. Works just fine. Poweragent too but I don’t use that anymore. WOrks great with my Garmin Forerunner too. No problems at all…

.

I got it to connect using WKO+. It’s a 14 day free trial. I think I’ll try to do a couple more powertap rides in the next two weeks to make sure it always works and then buy the software. It seems to have a lot better analysis capabilities than the cycleops ware anyway.

Thanks for all your help, guys!

I use a Vista machine and don’t have any problems downloading to either WKO+ or PowerAgent (both latest builds). I have never tried uploading directly to Training Peaks though. I always use WKO+ and then upload to TP through WKO+.
