Power Tap vs Computrainer

Hi guys,

I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and have decided to buy either a computrainer or a powertap. Which one do you think would provide better value for money?. I am leaning towards a powertap because I could use it in a race as well as in training. However, the computrainer tempts me as well because it means I won’t have to train outside in the winter as much

Any advice appreciated

It would depend on were you live. I live in Northern NH so there was no question, Computrainer. If I lived in a milder climate, Powertap.

Howdy Tommo -

For me, racing with power is so helpful that I rode a flat 90k TT using a seven year old 32 spoke Mavic Open Pro with PT hub over my HED3D disc – and I love that disc (I need to get SRM

You’ll get the most from using power by identifying appropriate training efforts (especially intervals where HRs lag) and doing race simulation training/efforts along with actual racing conjoined with a successful t-run.

Indoor trainer and outdoor wattage will probably differ but you may be able to account for that over time and with experience. Why not use the PT indoors when the weather is whack and get outside whenever possible. Time on the bike (indoors or out) beats any tool.

i live in Maine…power tap for sure. get a power tap, a really nice kurt trainer (or 1 up) and a some tour vids and you have the best of both worlds (indoor and outdoor power!)

I have had my computrainer for years and love it. I tend to do much more indoor training now, less that 2 hours, since I have desire to be in shape and 6 feet under the ground.

I am going to sell my CT and buy a velotron I enjoy them so much, with the power cranks!

I am selling my Computrainer and Netathlon internet s/w
