Power Tap & HR

Just got a new power tap SL, one question I have is, I have a polar 625 which I want to use to track my HR, altitude etc with. Has anyone managed to get the power tap to pick up a polar hr belt, or get their polar to pick up the cycleops hr belt. I cannot seem to get either way to work.

Thanks

Tom

Hi,

I just picked up my PT SL freshly built from my wheelbuilder this morning. I won’t be firing it up until after work but I’m pretty sure you won’t get either device to read from the HR strap of the other. In any case, your SL will give you your HR and if you still want to keep tab of the sketchy altitude readings from the Polar, you should just start it up as normal and they will be recorded. Go and have a look on the power forum at cycling forums and someone might have answered this more specifically.

i have an old polar w/ an uncoded strap and it works with my PT and the PT strap works w/ my polar.

dont’ think the coded ones will work tho.

The funkiest thing happened to me. When I first got my Power Tap, I put on my Polar 625 hr strap just for the heck of it to see if it worked. It worked just fine for about the first three rides. I had my 625 watch on as well, and they were both reporting the same HR. The Power tap stopped picking up the polar HR strap all of a sudden. It is a coded strap, and it did work at one time. I’ll report back if I can get it to work again.

I can speak to this to some degree…

My older SRM does not “support” coded straps (like the powertap).

But the signal of a uncoded are universal…

And the coded, well, the “lower” code (I think there are like 60) will read as well…

that is, if you use a coded strap, you will sometimes get data, sometimes not. For the times when you do not, just flip the HR Strap around until you don’t have a HR again. Wait 30-45s, then flip again…

this will force it to shut down and then restart with a new code. You will probably get HR then.

I know, it works for me on the older SRM…

OR ust get an uncoded strap…(althought the newer SRM head units support coded straps!)

Thank you very much. I thought something like that may have been the case. I wonder if the strap selects its codes randomly or in order. In any case, I’ll give it a whirl. Thanks again.

it is my understanding that the next code is random (so if you and your buddy were standing side by side with conflicting codes, they would select new different codes)…

but don’t hold me to it…
