So here’s the situation. My niece is a freshman and plays soccer for a small Baptist college. Her season started off great and they were 8-1 when the head coach sat them down and told them his brain tumor was back and he would need some time away from the team for Chemo. Not really sure all the reasons why but from that point on the team tanked. Right before Christmas break the coach comes back and says, “I couldn’t tell you girls before but I was on the show Survivor, that’s why I needed to take some time off”. And this is true, he’s the long haired guy on this season of survivor. As you can imagine most of the girls were angry they were lied to.
It’s a small school and I don’t want to jeopardize my nieces status on the team. I say this because when the coach found out some of the girls were mad he sat the entire team down and told them it was their fault for losing the games and they had better get with the program or their scholarships were in jeopardy. Bottom line is my niece is there to get an education and learn about life. After reading over this I guess this is about as close to reality as it gets. Maybe I’ll just let it alone and use this as my rant.
Changed the title so don’t read on if you are a huge Survivor fan. I have no idea who won but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone either…
The worse part of it is when the coach came back to address the team my niece said he looked like he had lost 40 pounds. So no only did he lie to the team and let them down as their coach, he obviously made it pretty far on the show and may have even won. Now that would be a horrible lesson for them to learn
I get it that what he was doing was supposed to be a secret. But did he really have to claim it was brain cancer? Why not go with something simple and classic like “for personal reasons?” Then again, I expect he had a contract to coach those girls that likely does not have an “except if you go on Survivor” clause so maybe there is some karmic leveling headed his way.
As for the scholarship threats, good luck with that! I can think of a couple of arguments that would gum up those works. If your niece is one of the threatened scholarship athletes, round up support and get in the AD’s face sooner rather than later with lots of commentary about performance before and after the coach’s departure and throw in the odd comment about the emotional distress both the original lie and the subsequent threats have caused the poor lil chil’.
He would have to clear his leave with the AD. So the AD must have known the real reason he was gone. Unless he told the same lie to the AD! I would say it really is a classless move to leave your team during the season. It tells me that he believes “he” is more important than the team.
Agreed, he’s a douche bag. And is quickly pissing off the others, and when he thinks he has it under control, he’ll be blindsided. Can’t wait.
And then, there is his hair. I just want rip that long greasy hair back into a ponytail and chop it off. As a soccer player and a woman, his hair alone makes me wanna barf. It is so “80’s soccer rocker”. Dude. Get with the times and chop that crap off. You look like an idiot.
What does your being a woman who plays soccer have to do with how he wears his hair. You may not like it personally, but do you speak for all women or soccer players in your opinion about his hair.
I don’t like coach either as a Survivor character and can’t wait to see him blindsided, but damn gal, it’s his hair, not yours.
I’ve noticed that some people have online personalities that are very similiar to real life while others are totally different. I imagine it would apply to Survivor personalities also. And let’s not forget that reality TV film footage is deliberately edited to build a story line.
Wife and I are Survivor junkies. We’ve watched almost every episode since the beginning. At first we “hated” some of the characters, but after numerous episodes realized we’d probably be in the same boat if we were on the show.
Me too, watched all of them. The ones I hated were just a holes, Johnny Fairplay for example. total, unabashed D Bag. That chick from last season with the “your daddy died” comment. Beeyatch
The ones that played the game, lies, cheated, etc., I just applaud them
One of my fav winners was the physics teacher in his late 50’s in the last episode. He was an upright Survivor citizen but just out thunk everybody else.
