Potential precedent: Fatal "Texting while driving" accident (link)

There have been a few posts on this forum about car/bike accidents where the use of a cell phone or text messaging may have been a factor contributing to driver distraction. This news clip is a car/car collision with tragic results and may serve to establish something of a precedent for accidents going forward. F.Y.I.:

Six years, that’s it? And her lawyer is going to appeal.

I say, lock her up for life :-). It’s not like the family that lost their loved one can get that life back!

This is a downside to our culture… complacency and anonymity.

We must push for legislation to deter people from using electronic devices while driving. Furthermore, anyone not attentive to the road commits reckless endangerment (e.g. ladies applying lipstick, men shaving with e-razors), but this is not enforced by those who have a duty to “protect and serve”.

Too often, people say, “What can I do?” and we have numerous examples of high profile or powerful persons who are struck by tragedy that make changes seemingly overnight (e.g. Amber Alert & 3-Strikes Statute).

So, what’s it gonna take for us to make changes to make the roads safer (for cyclist and motorist alike)???
