Potential hijacking of flight bound for Israel

Details still coming out. There was a fight between the pilots; some graphic video of the aftermath if you search for it. Plane dropped 17000 feet in under two minutes.

that is wild. can’t imagine how terrifying that would be.

I couldn’t find an update on the pilot other than clinging to life. Hero indeed, along with those that subdued the hijacker

I haven’t been able to work out who landed the plane given the pilot was impaired - I can only guess the pilot was well enough to land the plane?

There were other pilots on the flight. They weren’t working the flight (I believe they deadheading) until this emergency.

ETA: there are reports that the person who first began pulling the plane out of its dive was just a passenger, not a pilot. Then, reportedly, the two deadheading pilots took over.

Every flight simmer’s dream come true.

Ah the old “is there a doctor onboard?”, only a much bigger problem “is there a pilot onboard who isn’t already in the cockpit?”.

That has to be a really lucky situation for all onboard.

Wow what a story, thanks.

I wonder how he got the knife through security. Plastic or ceramic?

The story is still unclear. There is an axe stored in the cockpit and knives are used for meal service. I don’t think we know whether one of those was used, or something somehow was snuck through security.

But the other pilot, Roger, claimed to be Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

In all seriousness though, remarkable outcome.

A civilian on board credited the show Mayday for giving him the knowledge to pull the plane out of its dive (I love this show!!!):

“Excuse me stewardess? I speak jive.”
“Blood say can’t hang!”
“Blood don’t want the help? Blood don’t get the help.”

As well, Very happy it turned out alright.

Wonder who inflated the autopilot…
