Post Run Pain with Newtons

I’m trying out the Newtons and have about 5 runs under my belt now. Yesterdays run was by far the most comfortable of the bunch and quicker than all of the previous. This would stand to reason as the marketing behind the Newtons claim that you must break into them, not break the shoe in.

However, I have noticed that the last two runs have left me with a pain in my hip about 4 hours post run that lingers the rest of the day. Overall I have had soreness in muscles that normally do not get sore but I guess that is expected with the change in running form.

Just wondering what anyone else has experienced

Funny how your post ended up in the 4th page rather quickly… I’m starting to believe the guerrilla marketing theories…

Burn them so they match your money
.

it doesn’t seem like a very good idea to me to switch running styles mid season. Unless you are fast, lightweight, have good biomechanics, and strike mid to forefoot I don’t think newtons are made for you. that includes me even though I am quite lean I over pronate.

I would shelve these shoes until the season’s over.

no shit. I posted it and it friggin disappeared.

Ooops Inventory Time:

Unless you are fast, NOPE
lightweight, UNH-UH
have good biomechanics, NADDA
and strike mid to forefoot PROBABLY NOT
I don’t think newtons are made for you. PROBABLY RIGHT

Try this. Keep your body straight but lean forward a tad at the ankles. I know this bogus voodoo and running form is natural to the individual but since I have started doing that I am now able to run without crippling pain in my hips and shins.

I turned mine into some pretty neat beer coozies. I have received more use out of them in the last week than I did in the month and a half prior. And I don’t have shooting pains in my calves anymore!!

Yesterdays run …quicker than all of the previous

Ok - so something is changing to make you run faster. Could it be different or more muscles getting used?

**Overall I have had soreness in muscles that normally do not get sore **

Right. Because you are using them where before you didn’t.

Just stick with it and you’ll be fine as those muscles develop.

Everytime I take a break from the gym for a month or two and go back, I get the same issues when I start doing deadlifts but I’m sore for Days rather than hours. But then my body takes another session or two and I’m not sore at all. Nothing unusual here.

It seems like the general concensus is that Newtons = Gimick/garbage.

It seems like the general concensus is that Newtons = Gimick/garbage.
As far as I can tell, that’s only the general consensus among people who haven’t tried them.

I really need to publish my review.

Go for it.

I did try them, I just didnt start thread about it.

Let me clarify: Yesterdays run being faster than previous…

I meant faster than previous runs in the Newtons. Not yet faster or more comfortable than previous runs in my Asics or Brooks,

I’m most concerned with the hip pain

Any thoughts on the Saucony Sinister’s yet?

The “general consensus” has to be a bit hard to gather on a forum – people looking for help would post, while most folks who are 100% satisfied (myself included) pretty much have stopped talking about them. Why bang the drum when they provide a clear advantage?

9:00 faster run split at EagleMan over '05, faster track sessions by 12-15 sec/mi this year over last. And we’re not done yet.

If your running style works well for Newtons, then the key to managing the muscle pains during the adjustment period is getting sufficient ART treatments. Provided you’re landing on your forefoot, running with a slight forward lean, and essentially lifting your heels straight up toward your hammies, you can expect to run faster with less energy.

My $0.02.

Did you get pain in both sides of your hip’s or just one side???

That’s wierd. Normally folks are faster within a run or two. Too bad there isn’t someone out there who can watch you and give some comment to you on your stride.

There is the 30 day warrenty you may still be under.

Are yo uu comparing them to your Asics/Brooks racers or trainers?

LMFAO. So not only should people shell out up to $175 for these wonder shoes, but they should be springing for ART sessions so that they can put those shoes to use?
