I’m curious what you do for a post race shower? I have a 1 night reservation for Steelhead and check out is at noon. I called the Hotel I’m staying at and they will allow me to check out at 4 or 5 pm for half the price of the full day so basically $50 to take a shower. I have a 3 hour drive ahead of me so I’d like to be cleaned up. Have any of you taken a shower at a truck stop? What do you recommend?
Bring some environmentally friendly shampoo and jump back in the lake after the race. The cold will be good for your legs anyway.

Can’t you just hit the lake for a quick dip after the race and then hit the road?
This is what I did last time I trained in LP… “quick” dip in Mirror Lake after a 7H training day then 3h drive back to Ottawa.
Cheers,
Fred.
For 3 hour drive, I’d just rinse off in the lake, change into clean clothes for the drive, and shower when I got home.
In fact, that’s what I’ve done at quite a few races.
Throw down a towel or seat cover to sit on if you’re really worried about getting the car dirty/unclean.

or

I keep a stash of Wet Ones in my car for post-rides/runs.

Bring a couple gallons of water in old milk jugs and a bar of soap. As long as you wash the bacteria off the gooch, you avoid saddle sores- the rest will kill the smell enough to get home.
Then again, maybe some trucker will let you use his stall in exchange for some speed and porn…
there is a bath house, I am 90% sure the showers were there right by the finish open for public? RD posts here… ask.
but if you’re a dude, don’t get naked please. ![]()
Truck stop - sure, why not. Just wear sandals & stay away from glory holes.
Although it would be much easier to jump in the lake or bring a bar of soap to the bath house.
I’ve used the hotel pool in this sort of situation before. (I realize that many people would think jumping into a hotel pool after racing is improper. I just figured with all the chlorine they use for the kids crapping and peeing in the pool it could handle a little sweat from me.)
Yup, a quick rinse under the shower at the race site if they have them (most of mine are ocean swims so there are showers) and some wet ones for the key areas is good enough to get you home
.
ditto on just bringing a couple gallon containers of water.
i usually bring enough in the truck if there is any question about a post race cleanup.
that won’t equal a solid scrub down shower but it does get the chunks off to be able to manage the drive back.
state parks often have showers. look for one nearby.
at Chip’s race (rockmantri) there was a shower 100 meters from transition! it was the coldest shower of my life but it felt awesome!
If you have a YMCA membership, the Benton Harbor/St. Joe YMCA is just off 94 and they support the AWAY program. Very nice facility(well, at least it was 14 years ago). You could easily stop in there without going too far out of your way home. They even have 1 day passes if I remember correctly and it would be much cheaper than $50.

sudden flashback to the swim at devilman.
(((shudder)))
sometimes, even after all the post-swim sweat, it’s still the lake i most want to wash off of me.
I took a shower at the Chevron just off the run course at IMCdA so that I could clean up and watch the other finishers. It was cleaner than some of the pool facilities I’ve been to. I’m not sure if this would qualify as a “truck stop” as it seemed to be more in the middle of town than on the side of the Interstate.
Perfect I do have a YMCA membership!
Thanks for all the suggestions but I’m surprised only 1 response about Porn and speed? And no mention of the lot lizards…
I have done the post race truck stop thing. I drove to St. Pete from SC for St. Anthony’s in 05. Tried to make it back to SC on a quick Tampa Bay bath, but just couldn’t do it. It was kind of an interesting experience, but it beet that nasty feeling for 7 more hours in the car.
