Post marathon training

Thanks to many ST hints and tips and many hours of training I managed a new PB in teh Copenhagen Marathon by 1 hour and 17 minutes! now down to 3:25 (not going to impress anyone on here I know but it impressed me). I have my IM coming up in August and want to make sure I get back into training hard as soon as possible but I also dont want to destroy my legs! Should I just jump back in asap and do what I can through the pain or should I have a decent break and then come back to it? I was thinking of starting off with a swim tomorrow and then having a go at a 60k bike on Thursday and maybe a run Friday (10k)? thoughts?
I had to push 110% to do the time I did so yes my legs are v v sore but i can now manage stairs again

NO.

Swim is ok.

60k bike on Thurs seems a little long … particularly… how much were you riding while marathon training?

Your first goal = marathon recovery. Swim all ya want but stay off your legs.

I was cycling around 200k a week, running around 45k. How long would you stay off legs for?

if you ran a marathon having only been running 45k a week (less than 30 mi, no?) I would think you would have a fairly long recovery - you did all of your weekly mileage in a day

maybe 3-4 days off legs?

Yep, my training was very varied due to time constraints so some weeks I would do 2 24k runs and a 10k run and some weeks I would only manage 1 24k run and 1 10 run so I just averaged it out.
I am now on day 2 off my legs and they still hurt like hell so I guess you are right and I think Ill stay off the bike and running until the weekend (except for my cycle commute).
Thanks for the advice. Sometimes you just need to be told so thanks

Jumping right back into training after a marathon - increases your chances of injury. Take this time to spend it with family and friends because once you do jump back into IM training you might not have as much time for them. Swimming would be a good idea, if you feel the need to so something over the next few days.

What about a massage to help you recover more quickly?
