Post a cover song way better than its original

Heard the original twice already this week despite it being released in July. I guess it is technically a winter slow jam and not a Christmas song.

Lovers Rock / Reggae version from Jamaica…..

J Pop version from one of Japan biggest pop stars Hideki Saijo in the 70’s & 80’s

Organ versions from Denvon Lamarr Organ Trio based out of WA (US)

Instrumental hip hop version…

Tupac did a version but not great… any other favorites?

Yesterday I learned that The Bouncing Souls “Lean On Sheena” is a cover (original by Avoid One Thing)

I am a fraud

Heard this on WPRB the other day

It kinda sounds like a demo by Superchunk, maybe?

These guys’ cover of For What It’s Worth came up on Spotify last night, which led me to this:

FWIW cover:

Eye of the Tiger by this guy:

Is that the guy who voices Herbert in Family Guy?

It’s somehow even creepier.

Heard this in the gym, just a little while ago

First time I saw Gwar was on the Joan Rivers show with Oderus Urungus, definitely an acquired taste but not bad and crazy live shows…lol

Ive always liked this clip of Fanfare.. it reminds me of a cold-ass version of Pink Floyd in Pompeii or something.

Holy shit, I’d forgotten that even existed.

Philadelphia-based radio station WXPN 88.5 just did a whole days-long thing on the “best 885 cover versions ever.” My understanding is that readers sent in a top-10 and they used that to get the votes.

Watchtower 1, Hurt 2, which seems true to form. Some surprises, some random stuff, and, as always, some great songs way too far down on the list.

XPN is kind of a GenXy, we used to rock, we’re getting old but still trying to stay hip, station. The kind that plays a lot of REM and Wilco but also newer stuff.

Not better but almost indistinguishable from Bowie’s original

We may have a tie. Same guy, different hair (and voice?)

The Neil Young track. Best 90‘s cover …. London not Madchester : )

Since we’re approaching Christmas, this felt appropriate…
