The AI stuff I’ve been posting recently probably don’t technically qualify as covers, but holy shit some of these are bangers!

I’ll post a link when the Countdown is finalized, though I don’t listen to XPN, anymore
Oh man.
Marcus King, Sugaree.
Reworking of the Earth Wind & Fire track Brazilian Rhyme from a Kiwi based in Melbourne, Oz.
Well, that’s certainly unusual!
Most Kiwis live in Bondi.
True. Way better music scene in Melbourne I’d wager. Anyone I know that moved to Oz ended up in Melbourne.
(Melbourne music but not covers)
Maybe not better than the original as the original is friggin’ great, but this is a solid rendition.
Afro-Brazilian Jazz Funk cover of Ain’t no Sunshine
Can’t really post a cover of Ain’t no Sunshine without posting the 13 y/o Micael Jackson cover
Basically, it’s a rework of the backing track without Kim’s vocals, but it works
Here it is. The greatest cover ever and the best 80s MTV music video ever made:
More than 20 years ago I received a live recording of one of my favorite bands doing a show in Rotterdam, and it included a cover of a song I’d never heard before, Trumpets, by The Waterboys. Back then, there wasn’t an easy way to listen to nearly any song ever, so I hadn’t ever heard the original until this week when listening to the show again prompted me to check it out.
Frankly, while the original is fine, this unreleased live performance is a worthy reimagining.
Good cover. I always listened to the original in the context of the album from the Waterboys - This is the Sea. Beginning to end listen. They were well known in the 80’s in Ireland and UK. Listened to that album a lot in first year of secondary school and their next album Fishermans Blues.
Karl Wallinger was a key member of The Waterboys who then formed World Party. Their second album Goodbye Jumbo is a classic I still throw on every so often.
I listened to This Is The Sea for the first time this afternoon, and that is a good album. They should have been bigger in the States.
They made it into a Netflix Xmas movie a few years ago - that usually bumps the awareness among young people (it does in my house, anyway)
“That’s a pretty song dad. Who sings it?”
“If you like it, listen to this then…”
Millenial / Gen Z take on Hey! (by Nilufer Yanya)
in a similar vein cover of the Edwin Collins track…..
Bonus points for covers better than the made-up band’s original?
