fellow kind hearted slowtwitchers…the Canadian Press has called me back this morning and they are now interested in doing a TV segment about all of our kindness. There has been alot of outpouring about this story and many people want to help in any way they can–just as all of you have demonstrated here.
So, I will be getting a phone call this afternoon to coordinate a possible time for me to go to the local CBS newstation here, so the story can be on the air in Canada. I’m nervous, but feel that this is a way to recognize everyone’s efforts here.
If this ends up happening, I will be very clear that this has happened out of the generosity of over 100 people from around the world, via Slowtwitch, who felt compassioned enough to come together so this man can get back on the road and carry on with his impressive journey. The message will be about what great things can happen when people come together in a positive way.
Also Slowtwich can then be a segway for people to collaboritively donate to help out Maurice.
This morning I spoke with Maurice and he is ok about me doing the televised interview (if it is to happen). He is just anxious to get back on the road and can’t wait to see Jim’s camping gear, and everyone else’s donations. He is getting really excited and it’s awesome!
Awesome news Kittycat, It would be nice if someone gave him some computer time and had him log on here. I have asked a couple of STers who are in the area to try and get some pictures for us, you know to follow the ST rule. No pics it doesn’t exist. I feel wonderful that we could help him.
Maybe think of it this way: You’re NOT doing the interview to promote yourself talk or about how great slowtwitchers are. You are doing it because you might inspire a whole bunch of other people to do more than say “too bad” next time they hear about a bad situation they could do something about.
Kittycat, think of the good this will do Maurice, people will have heard of him and will go out of their way to help him along the way. One of my yoga students recounted the story of another cyclist she had the pleasure of meeting in Glacier Natinal park. The local paper had run a story about him and everyone had reached out to help him on his way. He didn’t need the help but people wanted to get involved. Maurice has had a bad thing happen to him on top of living with his condition. Think of the interview as another “contribution” to help him on his way.
I think he already said he would give back anything over and above getting him back what he lost. If that happens, I say keep the funds until there is another opportunity for the continuing adventures of “Slowtwitchers to the Rescue!” It could be a series!
FYI…The original article was carried in a local Cdn newspaper (Calgary Herald) on Tuesday with a photo of Maurice outside what looked to be the Salvation Army. There was a small follow-up article in the paper this morning under the heading *Triathletes aid disabled cyclist *mentioning that “Some American triathletes have started a fundraising drive for a disabled cyclist…” The article mentioned that the fundraising efforts began after the story had been posted on a website. Unfortunately, the Canadian Press did not note the name of the website. So, definitely wear your ST hat during the interview, KC!!
