Positioning your company for a buyout or merger

When positioning a company to merge or purchase or to be purchased from another company does it make sense to administer policies and a culture that is similar to the prospect?

At a macro level is the US positioning itself for a merger or buyout with/from Canada?

We’ve merged with Delta Airlines and we’re trying to take the best parts of both airlines’ cultures and meld them together. Most of it will depend on if the combined airline, once it attains a joint operating certificate, will have a substantial union presence or not. For our part, we’re known for generally-poor employee relations and Delta is known for its generally-good employee relations. Makes no difference to me, really, as I opted to take a buyout package and am just waiting for a release date sometime this year.
