Position Critique Please! (2)

Slowly working on getting a lower aero position. Made some adjustments today, still have a couple spacers to remove in the future. Any feedback appreciated!

Just eyeballing, but looks like your knee is a little far out over your cleat at 3 o’clock, so you may want to try pushing you seat back. Looks good at the bottom of the pedal stroke and not giving up way too much in the front, but obviously if you move the saddle back you’ll need to compensate elsewhere.

That is not bad. It is definitely more of a middle ground (from an aero standpoint) position but it looks comfortable and reasonable. I would ignore the advice in the post above mine; that is based on fit mantras that are no longer considered valid.

Your saddle is going to limit how low you can go as your sit more on the back than on the front. Once you decide that is not the saddle you want you can rotate your hips a bit more and get more aero.

Could you explain this a little more? I use the Fizik too (I’ve tried several others and keep coming back) and I’ve never seen the saddle as a limiter to getting lower.

It just depends on how you ride the saddle. Riding the nose won’t prevent anterior pelvic rotation which means you can go as low as you want pretty much. There are better options, however. Traditional saddles are disappearing.

Not always the best via webcam, but here is what I’d try if I were you.

#1 drop saddle 1-2 cm
#2 drop front end 2-3 cm
#3 move saddle back slightly

It looks like you are slightly overextended on the bottom of your pedal stroke. You can get more aggressive up front (comfort vs speed… find your sweetspot). And honestly it looks like you aren’t really using your glutes/quads at the 1-3 o’clock position. The saddle adjustment may help with this

Thanks all for the replies. If I drop the saddle, lower the bars, and move the saddle back, won’t these 3 changes have a considerable effect on lengthening my reach? I originally moved the saddle forward because I felt a bit stretched, but I do think I moved it a bit too far. I will try these changes and see how it feels.

Lower saddle by 2cm.
Remove all spacers from from under the stem.
Flip stem
Get longer extensions.

Repost vid after.

I don’t have your video pulled up again. but to reduce the reach have you played around with adjusting the pads? bring them closer to you? Shorter Stem? 90mm vs 110? Not sure whats on there.

Many different ways to configure your bike. Just need the time to play around a bit and take it out for a couple rides for comfort.

Can you explain more? I would love to get my saddle a bit further forward but my LBS fitter slammed it as far back as it would go (think Tejay’s TT bike: http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/photos/pro-bike-tejay-van-garderens-bmc-tm01-time-machine/277104) because of the reason the post above yours talked about. Having the knee in front of the cleat at 3 o’ clock really won’t mess up your knees?

The Tri2 isn’t really made for nose-riding (swapped mine for a Tri-tip), but there are some people who do use it for that and seem to do well/be comfortable (below). Guess it depends on anatomy.
