Pools/Swimming in Las Vegas

Hey all,

My wife and I are moving to Las Vegas next month and I’m wondering about recommendations for pools and swimming. I’m sure UNLV has an aquatics center. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

There are some great city pools in Las Vegas. Depending on where you live. When I lived there I used the one “downtown” and it was $24.00 for 3 months. Not too crowded in the early morning, usually retirees doing water aerobics. Let me know if you need more info.

Welcome to Vegas! Triathlon seems to be getting more popular here lately. As for pools, the municipal pool downtown is pretty nice. http://www.ci.las-vegas.nv.us/default_1449.htm It can get a little crowded though. If you are on the east side the Henderson Multi-gen center has a 50 meter outdoor pool and 25 meter indoor pool. There is a nice running trail there too. The Henderson Masters workout there and the coach is a triathlete. He does a splash and dash series in the summer. The Whitney Ranch community pool is probably the least crowded in Green Valley. We have a triathlon club that does open water swims at lake mead and mini tris and du’s every month. http://www.lvtriclub.com On the west side I believe there is another masters group. I think they meet at the Desert Breeze park pool but I’m not sure. Hope this helps.

Do you swim in the Wet 'n Wild surf pool to practice open water skills? ;p

Your reply makes me miss Vegas and lament all the stuff I didn’t do when I lived there(1987-1991). At least I spent a lot of time in Red Rock Canyonand at Lake Mead. Excellent rock climbing! Great fishing!

Hey J-son,

What part of LV you moving to. I go to a 24 hour fitness on the north part of town. And sometime swim at lunch at another 24 hour fitness. almost never crowded in the pool.

Guns of Brixton!!!

Hi J-son.

Love that signature. Long live the CLASH!!!

thanks for the reply. We will be living off of Casey on Caspian Springs (the complex is called Camden Palisades). Coming from the Midwest, we opted for moving into an anonymous apartment complex for our first year, until we learn the city. My wife is a veterinarian and will be working for Animal Kindness veterinary clinic. I don’t yet have a job … trying to convince her that full time IM training is a good career move for me … she’s not buying it! Hope to meet you when we move out there. We’re leaving Kansas on or about the 30, and plan on pulling into town on the First of June.

Take care,
Jason

My love of the Clash is mirrored only by my love of the Smiths.

Have you head the Cypress Hill Guns of Brixton rip-off, “Phone Number” or some such non-sense? Truely pathetic. This hip-hop aural garbage insults a classic punk rock anthem!

TriRocker –

Thanks for the reply. I’d love to get involved with your club once I’m out there. I expect to be in town by the beginning of June.

Best
Jason

You’ll be here just in time for the summer heat. The tri club looks like a great way to get involved when you get here. Ive never been it one though. drop me a line when you get here if you have any questions or want to hook up for a ride or something.
