Pools / masters swim in downtown Boston

Does anyone know of a masters program or pool for lap swim in downtown Boston? I won’t have a car but will walk or take a cab. Thanks for your help!

MIT has the best pool in boston. It’s 50m over the summer, before they put up a barrier that divides it into 2 25yard pools in the fall. They’ve got a masters swim program too.

it’s also $12/day if I remember correctly
.

Sorry, i’m ignorant to the cost, since I’m a student here. (= But the pool is a really good pool, doesn’t get too crowded that you can’t do a good workout. Clean, and an extremely high ceiling so the air doesn’t feel too chlorine laden.

Just looked up the costs: they’re listed on this website: http://web.mit.edu/zcenter/gen_info/cs_membership.html

Thanks. How far is MIT from downtown / convention center?

Are you referring to hynes convention center? gmaps pedometer puts it at 1.29 miles. You could probably walk…

If you are referring to the new convention center, it would be a bit further and probably better taking a cab or hopping on the Red Line. Either way, MIT’s pool is excellent and worth swimming at if you have the opportunity.

MIT pool is great! you can also check http://www.cambridgemasters.com/ they swim at the BU and hardvard pools and they have different times.

The MIT pool is about a 20 minute jog from downtown boston.

MIT really isnt in downtown area - try the Sports Club/LA, right off the Common
.

The MIT pool is definitely nice. If you’re looking for other options, I have to plug my masters team. We practice at Harvard’s Blodgett pool and have a number of practices available for a $10 drop in fee. Check out the Cambridge Masters website for more details.

I swim at the Wang YMCA in Chinatown. I have heard good things about MIT pool, but 2 visits to that pool would put me almost to what I pay per month to swim at the Y (I get student rate). They have a Master's program but it's in name only...somebody comes by and writes up workouts and people come in and do them whenever they want. I'm not sure if there is a designated Master's swim time. The pool is a Y pool....if you ever been in one you know what I'm talking about.

There is also a south end fitness center down by BU medical center! Its a nicer pool, they have reduced rates for south end residents. Nobody uses the pool.

hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replies. Hotel concierge is sending me to a Y on Huntington, about 5 blocks from where I’m staying. I may check out other options / masters on Thursday. but since I have no car I’m trying to stay close.

Can anyone drop in for a swim at the MIT pool or do you have to be a member? I will be in Boston this weekend and would like to go for a swim there… but it looks like membership is required… Any other 50m pools in the area that it’s open to the public?

Thanks!

MIT pool is free if you are affiliated with the school in some way (student, alum, faculty, staff), otherwise it’s a $12 guest fee. The other schools in the area with nice pools (Harvard, BU, BC Tufts) do not offer one-day guest passes since you have to be affiliated with the school in order to use them. It’s an excellent facility, I didn’t mind paying the fee the few times I’ve swam there when my regular pool wasn’t available.

You don’t have to be a member… though you do require a $12 day pass. Kinda expensive…

Cool thanks!
